Great thread. We have spent alot of time discussing bringing another couple to STJ with us and I think many of Rick's suggestions would apply to 2 couples as well as 4 or more. We have considered going to Mexico with some friends as a "trial" for 4 or 5 days. For us, STJ is our annual roma...

We were at Miles Away the week before cthelz (June 9-16). We LOVED everything about it; location (quiet), patio/veranda, pool, beds, washer/dryer and especially location to Cruz Bay restaurants and grocery stores. Great kitchen as far as appliances and cookware if you will be preparing any meals. Th...

I don't believe Captain Phil does maintenance until Sept/Oct. We spent a day with him week before last and it was really, really enjoyable. Snorkeled west side of Lovongo and Henley Cay. Contact him via his website to find out his schedule. He's very prompt in returning e-mails. We didn't schedule b...

Bug,
We took lots of food in our carry-on. Mainly snacks for the beach; nuts, dried fruit, crackers, power bars, granola. As long as it's not liquid, or frozen and melting, you should be fine.
I wanted to take some frozen steaks, but the blue freezer packs are not allowed.

Sea-nile, I've enjoyed all your reports and photos. This vacation will be a great memory for you all. We wish we could get our son who just turned 17 to join us, but he doesn't like the beach (and he's had 3 chances; Florida twice and Mexico once). Anyway, thank you for taking the time to post. Have...

Thanks for the compliments everyone. MaryBeth - Parking for the Inn at Tamarind is the first left you can make after you drive past the Inn (does that make sense?). I think there's a laundry mat there. We wouldn't have known where to park, but they had a sign that said, "Parking next left"...

Susan and Herb,
Glad to know about no screens on windows at Mayan Sky. Did they think since it was fully air-conditioned you wouldn't want to open the windows???
"Screens on windows?" Add this to my list of questions to ask before putting down a deposit.

I've never stayed at Mayan Sky, but it is on the top of my list for Coral Bay. Fully air-conditioned, pool, three bedrooms (one more than you need). It's on VIVA Vacation's site. Happy villa hunting!

Trip Report June 9-16: Villa, Jeep Rental and Groceries

Our first trip to STJ was last July and we began planning our return immediately after coming home. Last year we stayed near Coral Bay. This year we decided to stay closer to Cruz Bay for a change. Other than location, our priorities were 1) air conditioning and 2) a secure/lockable villa. A pool wo...
