St John on less than $600/wk – 2009 post updated for 2012

Just bringing this 2009 post over to the new site & updating actual cost. Although we are out of the “Great Recession” and times are not as dire as 2009, I think this type of low budget trip still works well on STJ and is relevant. Please skip down below the dotted line for the actual post. What...

Re: 16 more days in paradise: the whole thing (long)

Becky, WOW!!! I am always AMAZED at the fantastic pics & notes you put together after your trips. My wife and I just returned from 10 days on STJ (7.29 – 8.8.12) and did not see a fraction of what you captured. I’m the guy that did the "STJ on $500 a week" post back in 2009. My wife an...

I have know Jim for over 10 years. It is great to see his dream come to life. I toured the store with him in January when it was still months from opening. I am looking forward to seeing the final product when we are back on Island in mid January 2010. Has anyone been in St. John Gourmet Market in t...

Lvn de Life I

Congrats on the new "ride". Will you be ready for an Airport pick up and Cinnamon Bay drop off on 1/11/10? Much rather put gas in your tank than cash in the pockets of Varlock & cabs.

Enjoy, Scott & Renee

Very cool! I know exactly what you are saying.

John Denver may have said it best: "I was born in the summer of my 27th year, came home to a place I had never been before"

Easy walk to town from CV (less than 5 min). The walk back up is doable but you will break a sweat. You can always get a cab back up for $3-4. Overall, a great location now that construction noise is no longer a problem.

Glad to hear (and now see) that you and John had a great stay at Gallows. This is my wife's favorite place on STJ because of the balance between privacy and proximity to town. I was recently going through some old paper work from our first trips to STJ in the mid/late 90's. Unit 2C sold for $273,000...

Glen Speer is a fantastic individual. I have talked with him a few times about his design and build of the Junction. Some of the best stone and cement work I have seen anywhere. We tried to get him as an architect about 6 years ago for a small stone cottage my wife and I hope to build on STJ in the ...

I have known the owners since 2002 and watched them build from the beginning. They are a very nice couple in their early 60's who will work very hard to give you your privacy.

Wow! What a fantastic Forum. 24 hours after a relatively simple post about camping in Paradise, I find over 600 views and 19 replies. Below are a few answers to questions and questions to answers: Chicagoans "What are the bathrooms like? I don't think I could do an out house for a whole week.&q...

Thank you and tent fan details

Thanks for all the great feedback. The trip was actually very fun. Rick, Cinnamon actually allows 2 small tents per bare site: http://www.cinnamonbay.com/baresites.html "Baresites fit one large tent or two smaller tents and include picnic table and charcoal grill. Campers are responsible for th...

St John on less than $500/wk (no plasma donation or dumpster

St John on less than $500/wk (no plasma donation or dumpster diving required) Disclaimer! The story below is not for all and is not an anti Villa, Caneel, Westin or Gallows rant. We will return to more traditional STJ vacations in the future. If you love STJ, but are thinking about skipping a trip b...
