As a first time visitor to StJ, I would suggest that you spend as much time on the north shore, NPS beaches as possible. Adding more than one stop never dropped the cost from STL. Our lowest fare is almost always STL - MIA - STT.
I have been hoping and praying that since Southwest now has an affiliate that flies into San Juan that we would be able to build a cheaper route, but that just hasn't happened.

I find that Facetime works much better on my iPad than Skype does. If the person they are calling has an apple device, that may be the way to go.
