I haven't stayed, but it's on my short list of possibilities. While it has the basics we want, it also has screened porches. One of our trips the air was DEAD and it made for plenty of bugs. Since that trip, I've added a screened porch as a desirable feature but rarely see them. Still interested in ...

Pip... Funny you make the underwater comment... There is renewable energy research taking place into harvesting energy from ocean currents, waves, and tides. Scroll down a little on the following page to figure 1: http://ocsenergy.anl.gov/guide/current/index.cfm http://www.nrel.gov/docs/gen/fy07/404...

Just bought my wife a new camera for xmas. Had two likely candidates based on reviews and research (A Canon cybershot and a Nikon S8100). Went to the store to let her check them out, and she went with the Nikon. FWIW - one reason was she liked the user interface. Our several year old Olympus always ...

I'd be interested in knowing what production they get after a year or so. Placing small wind turbines at such a low altitude and achieving good results is much more difficult than it might seem. You need to get higher off the ground to have consistent wind direction and speed. In the one villa I sta...

Breakfast Enchiladas This is similar to Nic's, thought I would toss it in for variety, and if you're like us you may tweak things to taste. The original recipe is listed below and includes sausage. We make two batches for xmas brunch, one with and one without the sausage. In the one without we add m...

I'm not the seasoned traveler to STJ that many folks on here are, but have rented from both Conrad Sutton and St John car rental. I was successful parking at Conrad on a couple of occasions (showed up and figured if available, fine, if not, I'll skip Cruz Bay) but the one time I NEEDED parking and w...

Not sure how close the forecast has to be, but Catered To's policy is that guests are not allowed in villas during a hurricane, and they refund your money. http://cateredto.com/Hurricane_Policy.html Perhaps since the storm was just upgraded, they haven't had a chance to contact their customers, or m...

What I do (OK, my wife does :-) ) Washing machine, gentle cycle, then wad up a piece of newspaper for shaping and set on a drying rack. I have numerous ball caps, and always wear one working outside to avoid sweat dripping on the glasses (and avoid sunburning the noggin which still has some hair, al...

We've stayed at Frenchman's Reef 3 times. First two on points. In June we booked 3 nights following a trip to STJ. Were able to book a waterview at a substantial discount to the rack rate ($190 plus tax IIRC). Did it to line up a discounted villa booking with cheaper travel days for airfare. Maybe I...

I also vote for Candi's. The couple of times we went to Joe's, it took about 45 minutes to get our order. That kind of sucks for carry-out (I know, I know...island time). But, Candi runs by the same island time and it takes her about 15 minutes. I think her ribs and chicken are better, too. As othe...

Maybe they thought it was a porta potty? Now that's just gross! AH There were a couple of times they did their business on the pool ledge, which we just scooped a little pool water to wash away over the side. Then one day there was a deposit IN the pool. I assumed it was due to one of them ...

Pool going iguanas on STJ?
I've heard of the sea going iguanas of the Galapagos, but never the pool going iguanas of St. John. They spent lots of time sunning next to the pool, but one day it must've gotten a little too hot so they hung on the edge and dipped halfway in the water! :D http://inlinethumb17.webshots.com/47696/21...
