Point, shoot and hope for the best here, but...
my son has studied photography and swears by his 17-40mm lens...the same one Vicki uses...he also prefers it as his main lens when out and about. Lucky you...enjoy France! :)

Just so you know - that picture is NOT from St. John - it's just an example picture I could find of what a switchback is. And yes - you can certainly get used to it. How do you figure out the moon phases for your trip? Evenings with a full moon over the water can be spectacular on St John; star gazing is special there too.
