Re: Post-Irma news

Take the time to read this lengthy information about relief efforts. https://www.facebook.com/StJohnCommunit ... 7238946749. They are doing a great job along with St John Rescue from what I read and know. They need cash donations.

Re: Searching for small coastal towns to visit/retire

Southport has the largest July 4th Festival in the state of NC. Thousands & thousands come for the 4th. Depending on how you look at it, it can be loads of fun, or not. It is a huge event here for this tiny little seacoast town. I recommend looking at the Chamber's website where you would like t...

Re: Airlines.....Spirit?????

I flew on Spirit one time and really liked it, but I purchased the big front seat because it was a red eye flight from LAX to FLL to connect to SJU. The aircraft was very clean. Knowing all the issues, I would still fly them for the right price. We live near Myrtle Beach, so using Spirit for an isla...

Re: Trip Report - Off-Off-Season Sailing Trip Report

Looks like it was a good time by all. Smart move you made here Rick. I hope to move this direction one day. Think you will ever venture out of the VI? I had been to SXM and the Grenadines with friends. Would love to spend time doing some down island harbor hopping.

Re: Searching for small coastal towns to visit/retire

As far as protected area, I guess you are referring to hurricane protection. We are as vulnerable as other coastal communities, maybe an argument can be for being more vulnerable because we 'stick' out in the ocean. Having been raised in eastern NC, I have lived with and through many many canes. You...

Re: Searching for small coastal towns to visit/retire

Great to see several Forumites posting about Southport! We should have a get-together sometime. It is a growing retirement community. Many developments along the coast of southeastern NC, from Southport down to Calabash. There are developments strung along highway 17 from Wilmington to Charleston. I...

Re: Coral Bay Marina

I just read part of the marina plan that includes waste water treatment and fresh water usage. They are proposing to use cisterns for their primary water source and fire suppression, and WAPA and/or Caneel as back-up. Vessel pump out will be held in a tank, only to be removed later for disposal to t...

Re: Coral Bay Marina

As a former resident of Coral Bay, I have mixed thoughts of this news. In addition, I am a boat captain, so I can relate to the need of a marina. St John needs a modern yachting center to meet the needs of boat owners and charters. My reservation about this whole thing has always been size. And afte...

Looks like I am posting a little late since you arrive today. Before you come to STJ, stop at Kmart or Home Depot on St Thomas.
