Re: Christmas in St. John
Great ideal with the Christmas lights. We will do that for sure. At least one street level condo at Grande Bay will be lit up!

Rent a jeep! Our kids are 23,20,15 and even though a jeep wrangler is tight, we manage to fit all beach gear and paddle boards on top. You are traveling from my home state, TN, which is too far not to take advantage of the entire island without having to worry about taxis. Last time I tried to catch...

Re: Dinner first night in STJ
I'm no pro like some of the folks on here, but we also prefer a more casual first night. And for that, we go to Woody's as we always try to make it there once per trip. Never a bad experience there! We also like Lime Inn and Morgans, but if you are looking for other really good options, then Banana ...

Re: Air fare higher in the Summer?
I agree 100%! So when I booked our air yesterday with Delta, I ask. Lady told me it's because school is out and it's peak for family travel. So if it makes you feel better, we paid over 950 from TN. Just book it!

Re: Private Charter in mid July
We are do ours the week of 7/18 on Rockhoppin Charters with Capt. Steve. I imagine all the charter boats are really good in St John. But once you go with somebody you really like, it's hard to try anything else. You might email them and see if they can put something together.

Re: Favorite place to stay where you can walk to town
Hands down, Grande Bay via VRBO. The condo called Beautiful Morning is outstanding. We have stayed in it twice. Owner very nice and helpful. Also has management company that will have a vehical in your reserved parking spot when you arrive, so no hassels at all regarding that. The 3br units at Grand...

Re: Grande Bay
We haved stayed at Grande Bay the last 4 times we visited St. John. Never heard a sound from the Beach Bar. We did stay in the upper units and one time we had a rooster behind us that served as a daybreak alarm clock! You will be very pleased with Grande Bay.

Re: Private Charter recommendations...
We have used Rockhoppin Charters twice and are going with them again in a couple of weeks. Boat is perfect for 4 and Capt. Steve is awesome. I'm sure the others you have contacted are good too. Look up their website as it has all the contact information. Tip....If you book them and go to Soggy Dolla...

Re: Best way to get to JVD for a day?
Charter Captain Steve with RockHoppin' Adventures. Very reasonable and you have your own boat to do what you want. He will also take you to Little Jost which I didn't even know existed and make customs checkin a breeze. Boat pulls right up to the beach at Soggy Dollar and will stay as long as you wa...

Re: Safe Sea Lotion
We were on St John the last week of May. And I don't care what you call them...Plankton, Sea Lice, Hydroids, etc...those suckers are annoying. We ran into them at every beach. For some reason, they seem to get worse as the day goes on. So go early if possible. I used Safe Sea every single day and th...
