Re: 2018 Roll Call
We were supposed to leave this week for a two week visit to Caneel. Based on some of the trip reports I have recently read Caneel still looks like a war zone with no apparent or at least any publicised plan on moving forward (at least that I am aware of). We liked the ease of Caneel and of course th...

Re: St. John like destination
Little Dix Bay on Virgin Gorda is going through a complete renovation and is scheduled to reopen December 2017. Should be nice and may be a good option. We live in Omaha and share your love of St. John. I second the thought that Hawaii, while very nice is a bit of a trip, can be crowded and expensiv...

Re: What was your first impression of St. John?
1994 - got to the airport on St. Thomas, went to the Caneel Bay check in area and got on the Caneel ferry to head over to St. John. I remember the ride over as if it was yesterday, the uncertainty about the island and resort; being in our mid twenties we were really just in awe. I felt like St. John...

Re: When and/or was your 1st Time on STJ
It was 1994, my fiance and I worked with a travel agent who told us about St. John. Omaha to Atlanta then on to St. Thomas where we went to the Caneel Bay reception area. We took the Caneel ferry to what I thought was either heaven or paradise. We were married in the sugar mill ruins which now is th...

Thank you for the great pictures and report! I share your passion for snorkeling and your excellent pictures makes me feel like I am snorkeling beside you.
I also know what you mean when arriving on a beautiful and deserted beach!
Take care,
Dave

As long as the sea is calm, Carvel is a great snorkel spot and even better dive site!
Twenty-two years going to St. John; that's a lot of great memories!

Re: Loud music and glass beer bottles
I believe it was early November 2015 when there was what sounded like a reggae-fest coming from that beach area.
We were staying at Caneel and it is amazing how much the sound was carrying. Luckily, it sounded pretty good!

I think you do appreciate St. John even more the longer you are away.
The nice thing is it is always there waiting!
Thanks for sharing.

Unfortunately, I have never seen the TSA precheck line utilized at the St. Thomas airport.

Sounds like you had a great time, thanks for the report. I usually snorkel alone so I appreciate the words of caution.

Ahh yes - The famous current between Scott and Turtle! The elkhorn coral is really pretty in that area.
Great sunsets too!

As I mentioned earlier, we were on St. John the same time back in 2009 and we stayed at Caneel Bay. Here is our view from room 7E overlooking Scott beach.
Still beautiful!

Thanks for the belated report! We were on St. John the same time as you back in April 2009. I remember it being pretty dry but otherwise beautiful weather.

You can't have it all? Looks pretty good to me from our dreary weather in Omaha!!
You truly have mastered the art of getting close ups of fish. I have never been able to get those kind of pictures of porcupine fish, they are always trying to hide.
Take care,
Dave
