Sweet plantains 01/13/2011
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
I just had dinner at sweet plantains. It was one of the best meals I've eaten on St John. The service was professional (unlike many of the Cruz bay establishments that have a high staff turnover). We ate outside, overlooking coral bay, but the inside was very nicely decorated.

The menu offered a prix fixe option-I think it was $39 for three courses (soup or salad, entree, and dessert). There was also a four course option. Some of the pricier menu items have a higher prix fixe).

I had the mixed salad-it had local greens and chickpeas-it was delicious. My husband had the Caesar salad. I splurged on the market price seafood with French creole sauce (chicken or a veggie/tofu version are also available. The seafood was half lobster tail, scallops and shrimp. The sauce had a kick, but was not too spicy. It was served with delicious grits. My husband had the jerk slow cooked pork tenderloin-it was so tender and was served with yucca fries.

We took home the desserts- german chocolate cake and coconut flan. Both were excellent.

It was an excellent meal with great service in a lovely setting.
