Sweet Plantains 06/03/2008
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
Sweet Plantains was my favorite meal of the entire trip! I wish they had been open for more of our stay because we definitely would have eaten there more than once.

There is both indoor and outdoor seating at Sweet Plantains. We sat at an indoor table in front of a large open to the air window that looked out over the water. The d飯r is funky, with lots of orange and gold tones. Lighting is dim, but not so dim that you cannot read the menu. The restaurant smells sweet and spicy, which makes you anticipate all of the good food to come.

If you like cocktails, I highly recommend the martinis made with local guavaberries. It was refreshing and not too sweet.

We started with the sampler plate: saltfish cake with mango sauce, tilapia seveche with tostones, and Jamaican jerked chicken wings. I loved the flavors of the chicken wings, and I usually don’t like wings (too fatty!). The seveche was also top notch. I’ve never been a huge saltfish fan, but the mango sauce this cake came with made me like it a little more. For dinner we both had mahi—mine in a golden curry with sweet corn, golden raisins, and scallions, and John’s in a red curry with cilantro garlic sauce. John’s was a little spicier than mine, but both were delicious. Both dishes came with sweet plantains and rice. I’ve been trying to replicate the golden curry sauce at home (so far without success!) Our waiter was a great guy too, which just added to the wonderful experience.

You should really try this restaurant!
