A little less than one mile down Route 20 East past Trunk Bay is the famous beach of Cinnamon Bay. It is located next to the public campgrounds that are managed by the National Park Service. The area has a watersports center that rents snorkel gear and windboards. Arrangements can also be made for day sailing, scuba diving lessons, and snorkeling excursions. Lifeguards are usually on duty. The beach has restrooms, showers, lockers, and the there is a campground restaurant and grocery store which are open to the general public.
When there is an approaching storm, the water can be somewhat turbulent. However, most of the time it is calm. The two places to snorkel here are around the island where you will see underwater caverns and off to the right of the boulders at the end of the beach. You can snorkel for long periods of time and then rest in little coves. The beach tends to be somewhat crowded for the same reason as Trunk Bay, and so I would only spend early mornings or late afternoons here.
A campground with bare tent sites, prepared sites and cottages is adjacent to the beach. There is also a camp store. Call 340-776-6330 or 800-539-9998 for camping reservations.
