Little A**backwords but anyway, What does anyone here know about this hotel. I paid in full and it doesn't look like I can get a refund to look for another place.

Never stayed there, but visited for a Rotary meeting (yes, I do "make ups" even on vacation!) I enjoy meeting new people...
Nothing major of note; somewhat run down but very centrally located for shopping and good restaurants, easy taxi ride to beaches.
Not a horrible choice for a couple of nights, but there would be better in my opinion (on the beach...).
No bad days in STT or STJ...

Hi, we have stayed at the Holiday Inn downtown on the day we fly down, and go to St John the next am on the downtown ferry, we have probably stayed 8 out of the last 10 years there, and while it is a bit run down, although last year they had upgraded the property quite a bit, and we ended up with a harborview room, for the money it serves its purpose, great location we had tried the Best Western at the airport and Emerald Beach, both nice but a tad isolated and a taxi ride into town, We enjoyed our days in Charlotte Amalie shopping and eating out, early dinner and up for the first ferry. By the time our flight lands and we get to the hotel its usually about 1:30. I wouldnt worry too much about the reviews, while I wouldnt spend my vacation there it is great for a one nighter. Would like to try to stay in Red Hook one year, but have not found too many properties that will allow one night in season. We booked about 6 months ago for trip in Mar 09 and paid 185.00.

It is certainly not a fancy hotel atmosphere but a nice harborview room would be a worthy upgrade. Use the time to explore the shops, passages, architecture, and ambiance of downtown Charlotte Amalie during the day and enjoy the many interesting restaurants of Frenchtown in the evening. It is an easy walk to both.
If you are up early walk down to town area and watch it slowly awaken as the stores unbolt the doors and the locals get ready to start their day before the cruise passengers get into Main Street. A few waterfront places offer breakfast with a harbor view and watching the cruise ships steam in is beautiful.
Say "Good Morning" to everyone and you may well be surprised at what a pleasant feeling exists in town each morning before the taxis and tourists clog the streets and stores.
The hotel is fine for a night or 2 - it is commonly used by business travelers to STT and visitors who are continuing on to the BVI or STX as the terminal across the street has the seaplane and the BVI ferries.
This is NOT where the STJ ferry departs from !! That is more downtown towards the vendors plaza area.

I don't think I'd sweat the reviews but in Feb the Holiday Inn STT has an at least 1 week prior cancelation full refund policy.

If you get a harbor view room, make sure it's not close to the casino - too noisy. We had the pleasure of staying one night because our flight was cancelled. Earthquake, Omar, cancelled flight, fair to middlin hotel...we drank rum at the courtyard bar.
