Arrived back from 2 great weeks on St. John this past Saturday at 8 P.M. Only to find that our house was still without power from Thursdays Ice Storm. It was 41 degrees inside the house, we stoked up the fire place and slept on the floor next to the fire, can you say cold. Marie went and stayed with one of our daughters yesterday (what a quitter) and I hooked up a small generator to the refrigiator and T.V. and toughed it out. Just got power back an hour ago, boy do I need a shower.

Talk about priorities.... hooking up the genset to the fridge and tv. What about the heat? Lol! I guess you have to have the game on with a cold beer. Lol!
It's no fun going from tropical temps to freezing temps. Good thing you have a fireplace.

Think of it as like being at Maho Bay Campground, in the winter!

Well at least you got to go to St John!
We were without power for 57 hours which made for quite a weekend. Without electricity we had no running water and no basement sump pump, which resulted in a flooded basement

The upside was that there was plenty of water at the foot of the basement stairs for toilet flushing. Alot like camping with better beds

Fun stuff!

Wow, Mark, sorry to hear about your power. I hate being without power, much less in the winter. That is REALLY a bad re-entry. Glad you had a nice time on STJ. We enjoyed meeting you and Marie.

Wouldn't seem to need the refrigerator if it was that cold. Put the beers on the windowsill.

We live on a lake and to get water to flush the toilet I had to go to the lake with a pipe and a bucket. The pipe was to break the ice enough to get to water to fill the bucket. The generator was small and could not run the furnace so I powered the refrigerator to keep the food from thawing out, we are not beer drinkers and the T.V. to keep me from going insane. Well on the bright side there were no Mosquitoes!

So sorry to hear about your horrific return! The amazing thing about this storm (to me at least) was that 30 miles away, in Providence, it was 60 degrees.
My husband may have convinced me that we need a generator....
