Okay - so with all of the trouble with CitiGroup, if we pruchased our plane tickets to STJ next summer with air miles from a Citiband American Airlines card, does that mean that we won't be able to use them??????

i doubt it--you have purchased the tickets already--so you have a contract there.
now if AA goes under you might have a problem.......

I hope so loria. Too chicken to check into it for fear of what the result would be.

Captain John - if I was gonna change it, I would have done it when Katrina hit us. I opted to keep it (after alot of consideration), so no matter what...the name stays :? :)

If it's the type that transfers the miles earned right into your AA Advantage account each month I would think you would be fine. That's what ours does. We already bought our tickets for spring using miles. I worked for Citi for 20 years and am concerned about my pension and hope it is still around when I want to collect. Have friends working there who are sweating their jobs right now. Citi still has performing investments - they are down but not out yet. From what I understand they are still in good cash shape and the shoring up of the precarious assets (the mortgages) is where they needed help before a lot of those loans went south into default. I heard that they, unlike the big 3 automakers, presented an actual plan rather than just holding out their hand and saying "gimme". Interesting times.

You'll be fine. Citibank just tells American Airlines that you spent X amount of money using their card. Doesn't matter if it's for plane tickets or gum. American Airlines translates the # of dollars spent to airline miles.
