just realized my God daughter's 16th is on Friday. I'm in Jersey she is in Michigan! I need to send her something ASAP! Any ideas? I have no clue about 16 year olds!

No idea what your price range is, but I know the 16 year olds around here like the designer stuff - how about a purse? From a discount store, or overstock.com?

What is her birth stone? Maybe a nice necklace? It's classic and she'll always remember you when she wears it...

Does she have an ipod? Itunes card is always a good choice.

Maybe a gift certificate for a manicure or some other spa service...something a little more special and "grown up".

I don't know the driving age for her state but in PA, 16 is when they can get their drivers license. You can always go with the driving theme....keychain, iPod connection to radio, bluetooth for her cell phone. If she's getting her own car you can get her matching steering wheel cover, trash bag, seat cover, etc.
One more thing I always get a new driver....one of those tools that can cut the seat belt, break windows, and beat someone senseless

(for safety purposes of course)

I vote for a car since she's old enough to drive. You'll be her favorite aunt for life. But jewelry seems like a good choice, if you nix the car idea. Good luck. Teenage girls are tough to buy for.
Oops, I meant favorite Godmother.

How about a 20" silver chain?
(I know, I'm being a smart-ass!)

some sort of purse and maybe a pair of sun glasses.
the type of purse & sun glasses, of course, will depend on the girl.
i loved purses & sun glasses when i was 16 but i was a hippie so i bought fun stuff made in india from the local head-shop. lots of embroidery and exotic themes and colors. i carried butts, sun glasses, a hacky sack and a lighter in it. i liked hidden pockets for carrying a few "other" items.
but, if she's a designer chick- go for names like coach and stuff like that. she might also like a charm bracelet or necklace from tiffany's if she's a designer name kinda gal.

If there was such a thing when I was 16, I would have loved a gift cerificate to shoes.com or zappos.com

My two cents.. blue tooth and ipod connections may not be the best thing to encourage a new driver to use. Too many distractions for a new driver. Love all the other driving related ideas though
A desinger bag is a great idea. Try Coach on line

My teen boys love American Express gift cards. They can buy whatever they want online or at the mall.
