Spirit Air Flight

I'll be on this flight tomorrow. Can someone tell me which ferry we should be taking, considering that we will be waiting for luggage? It looks like Red Hook might be the best option. Does anyone know how much the taxi ride is to Red Hook?
Also can someone who has flown Spirit before tell me how boarding is done? Is it by zone like the majors? Or back to front? Or by those who paid for their seats?
This will be our first time on Spirit, and I'm in row 6, worried about there being enough room for my carry on, if they board back to front. Since it's actually a cooler that will have our frozen meals in it, I am really scared to check it at the last minute, should it get lost (After 24 hours, EWWWWWwwww!!)
Thanks for any insight you can give.

I'm in row 8, and now I'm worried. I thought it went by when you checked in, but maybe not?
I'm going to try to get the CA ferry, but I'm not sure how that will work out.
Are your meals frozen solid at this point? If you wrap them in newspaper, you might be OK. Or I'd track down some techni-ice (I think you can get it at sporting goods stores) and then check the cooler. Of course, I haven't gone the cooler route, so someone else might have better advice.

Yes, everything is frozen solid. I freeze them in gallon sized zip-locks or for grilling meat, just freeze them in their packages. The cooler works very well for a long time. They all work to insulate themselves. The only problem that could possibly happen is if they get lost for more than half a day or so.
BTW, I, too have a big tote as my personal item, so you're not alone. The airlines have made it so impossible to take much. We're renting our scuba gear for the very first time ever since 1991. Can't take our gear, because we need 2 suitcases just for that before any clothes or other stuff.
I'll see you on the flight! I'll be the one with the big, colorful quilted tote and the bright yellow rolling case.

I'm not going until the 8th

, so if you're not coming back that day, we'll have to meet up for a beer. If you are, we'll have to coordinate better next time LOL.

Oh! So you have another week of anticipation. I'm certain this week will just flit by. We return on the 8th. Sorry we won't be flying together.

Nope, you'll be taking the plane I arrive on back to FLL.
But, you'll be hooked on St John and have to go back, so maybe next time!

They board by 'zone' -- it will be printed on your boarding pass - it appeared to be front to back in sequence - since FLL-STT is direct it is 'less likely' that your luggage will go astray.
Before the airline agents became humor free -- I used to just ask for" a ticket to where my bags were going".

Thanks, Exit. If they do board front to back, that's opposite what the majors do. But I'll be VERY happy. Since they make you pay for the choice seats up front, seems they
should let you board first.

Spirit boards business class big seats first (very small numbers), and I think those that need assistance (young and old ) next, and then by zones usually back to front from what I have witnessed. Maybe they do it different ways for different days, who knows? Thats just what we have experienced.
You will get on and I have seen attendants help people find the space to get their carryons overhead.
CAT...Get in the island spirit NOW and don't worry! Have a GREAT vacation!

Thanks, Carolyn - I needed that! When it's the day before a big trip, the AR in me kicks in. The back-to-front boarding sounds like what I thought it would be. I'll be up and on line as soon as they call my zone. Until I'm on that plane and my bags are stowed and ready for takeoff, I think I'm going to be a basket case. Now you know why I'm always ready for a vacation!!
