I am supposed to be on STJ right now...

...but I'm not. I was scheduled to leave on Friday for a blissful 16 days. I had to cancel when I got a new job (yes Jorge, another circus wanted me!). Its a great job and I decided not to be bitter about having to cancel my trip. Since I got the job a month ago, I have been fortunate enough to enjoy music on Beale Street, night life on the Riverwalk, Badger homecoming in Madison, and several other fun events.

BUT- I have had to avoid the Forum for weeks because it depressed me. And now that its finally the week for half the forum to be heading South...I can't help it: I'm bitter.

How do you deal with having to cancel a trip that has been planned for months?! I have Trip Reports to read and forum news to catch up on...but still depressed. Who has the magic potion?

And now I have to delete my damn ticker! Argh!

A little romantic, sensual, one on one time with someone special works for me

You took your Badger to Madison? That must have been interesting.

Well, what can you do? Move on and plan the next trip!! That, and be thankful you've got a good job. The calls started a week ago from friends looking for work that had unexpectedly lost their jobs due to downsizing.

Cheers, RickG

Congrats on your new job! Things happen for a reason. Enjoy your life. Think of the fun in planning the next trip, too! :D

There will be other trips... and now you'll be able to afford to plan them because of a new (hopefully secure) job. About the only thing we humans are guaranteed is change, and if you don't find a way to embrace it you will be bitter.

That said, I would completely feel like you do now if this had happened to me. You may want to avoid trip reports and webcams for the next couple of weeks. Can you get some time on the calendar now (even if it is six months from now) to start planning your replacement trip? That usually helps.

Thanks for the laugh, Rick. I needed it tonight.

And you're right, I know I should be thankful to have a job in this economy. As with all gigs in my line of work, this good job is only temporary and I'll be free to go to STJ in late May. I think I may have to spend a month to make up for missing this trip!

I was very much looking forward to meeting all the Famous (or infamous) Forum folks, but I guess it will have to wait...

I hope everyone has an amazing trip...

Well, I definitely deserve that. I have been too wrapped up in the new gig to socialize....BUT.. I could be using my new job as a great way to meet the Famous Forumites without going to STJ. This could cheer me up and I do go to a different city every week. This week is Nashville. Off to Monday Night Football Tonight! Yeah!

Tracy- Sorry I miseed you, I suck. I am coming back to Wisconsin though...Appleton too far?

Carry-on badger? They seem to be allowed as long as the carrier and animal are 15 pounds or below. I've always wanted a badger-shaped knapsack.

Tracy- Can you ship this guy a Badger so he will be happy!?

Hey S4MS!

First, congratulations on your new job. In today's economy having a good job means everything. Secondly, it sucks that you had to cancel your trip. I know it is gut wrenching, sick to the tummy to have to bail on 16 days...don't you worry, girl, STJ is
waiting for you when you can reschedule. Sometimes life takes the crazy turns that we aren't expecting and we just have to re-group and take a breath.

We've done the last 4 years, 2 14 day and 2 7 day trips and summer 09 is looking pretty "iffie". If I don't put on my creative financing hat, it could be a sad 09 summer. We are feeling your disappointment but just know that you will be there again!

Where in NC are you? I had kids in Kernersville....

I'll see what I can do. And as far as Appleton goes - I'll be there for Thanksgiving - does that help??

Another badger question, how do you handle periods of torpor? Do you have to keep them pretty warm to keep them active?

Rick G - You will be on STJ in three days and you have nothing better to do than to inquire about the hibernation habits of a Badger.... God Love Ya!

Thanks for keeping me laughing!

And Tracy- Work doesn't send me back to WI until May. I hope to be scheduling STJ right after that. It seems like a million years from now, at this point.
