Hi all!

I see that Ruth, Randy and the rest are keeping you updated! We can't believe we are here and preparing for our first hurricane. Living in the midwest, you don't really expect to every see one! We are actually managing to have a great time. I feel that we should be more worried or something. Everyone around here is very busy and we are kind of just going with the flow. Staying at Sailview was the best decision ever since Mike and Eileen are inviting us up to their hurricane party and it's much easier to be relaxed when locals are updating you every so often and you know they've been through it before. Yesterday was a great day and we even got some sun between the rain. Spent it at Maho as one of only two couples on the beach.

Their is definitely an energy in the air. We heard they evacuated Caneel and Mike and Eileen talked about us trying to leave, but said they honestly thought we'd be safer with them so we decided to have an adventure instead of heading to chaos on St. thomas or San Juan. We plan to just wander for a bit this afternoon and find a drink somewhere. We have rum in the room if all else fails! We are hoping that this passes through, does very little damage and then we can enjoy a few days of sun (even if we are only eating bologna sandwiches on the beach)! We just heard they are calling for a curfew at 6pm so we are going to go explore, we'll stay safe and see what happens!

Prayers for safety for the islands are definitely welcome!

Good luck. I think staying put with locals is the best idea. You'll be able to help clean up and have a story to tell.

Cheers, RickG

As in all situations, use good sense and ask for help if you need it, I'm sure it will turn out ok.
Be safe, we are thinking of all of our friends in the islands and hope all will be well.

Nic, I hope Omar passes fast and you are able to get some sun, when are you scheduled to leave?

Your trip report will be different this time with hurricane pictures to include. Be safe and our prayer are with you.

Sincerely...best of luck to you all, stay safe and godspeed the end of this hurricane.

Good luck!
In 1985 we went to the Floirda Keys for our honeymoom in Sept and experienced a mild hurricane. I am not sure of the category. While everyone worried about us back home we were having a great time and were drinking "hurricanes" with the locals.
Keep the positive attitude, be safe and yes listen to the locals! Sun soon come- hopefully!

Nic - Just keep thinking "Ain't nuthin' but a big ol' storm!" Does that help? No?

Hunker down with that rum and keep track of the details so you can report to us! Hmm...rum & details, is that an oxymoron?

Nic-
Echoing many sentiments made already, I agree that you've made the right choice. Have the one you love in one hand, a dark & coke in the other, and a bologna sandwich in the other.
Stay safe, and hope you get some sunshine. At least you'll have one heck of a story to tell!Take lots of pix!
Watch out for them 'skeeters-
Smiles?-

So glad they are letting you stay. Most villa co's on island would force you to leave and be done with you (read the fine print of the agreements) at least that's the case with CV's agreement.

I don't envy you having to deal but it sounds like you're making the best of it. Fill up every container you have with fresh water -- cause you're gonna need it!

Hang in there!
