Trunk Bay ,1967

O.k. Not my best attempt at coping,but it does show the 3 plus homes that once stood in the background of Trunk Bay.The pic was taken in december of 1967 and was included in the National Geograhic January '68 issue.Happy Tuesday y'all.

Do you know what happened to the other houses? There's just the one house there now, right?

Thanks! I love old pictures and I love Trunk Bay. It is good to see that it mostly looks the same other than the houses.

As I had explained in response to another post recently, the complex of buildings at Trunk were a guest house belonging to the Boulon Family, who owned the bay from 1929 to 1959. The Boulons lived in Puerto Rico and spent summers at Trunk Bay until 1946, when they opened the guest house, which soon acquired a devoted stateside clientele. Erva Boulon was a suberb cook, and the setting wasn't too shabby, either. The main house remained open as a restaurant, after the National Park took over, until sometime in the mid-1960's---that's the big veranda you can see on the house with the green roof. Best view with your burger in the Caribbean.
For mysterious, but no doubt practical (not aesthetic) reasons, the Park decided to demolish the restaurant building and all the others except one on the property.
