I love finding them in St. John. Would anyone else care to join me in making a little octopus gallery?

Very nice pictures! I have never seen one, but I hope to.

sea-nile sais that we would likely do that if we go night diving, but I'm not sure if I'm ready for that  :?

UF Prof,
I have a Canon SD850IS and its housing and I also have PhotoShop. I appreciate your compliment :)

liamsaunt,
I love the close-up photo... very cool.
By the way, what was it that the octopus was so stretched out embracing (or trying to eat)?

Pickle, the octopus was eating a conch. I have a whole series of photos of it in various poses while it enjoyed dinner. It was really interesting to watch!

Fantastic photos! I've never seen an octopus while I was snorkling. Gotta look harder next time.

Dang Pickle - I can't believe you even spotted those! They are so well hidden! Thanks for starting this thread. I hope more pics get posted!

I admit - I have a tendency to look carefully around and into little crevices among rocks and corals. I grew up in a coastal town and used to go to a rocky shore nearby where I enjoyed exploring the tidal pools (the ocean isn't safe to swim in). I must have gotten this geeky habit from my childhood experience. That said, I do raise my head to see what's swimming around too. Gosh, I even enjoy the seascapes. But, for the most part, I'm normally the bio-geek who finds octopuses, eels, bivalves, etc. hiding in their little spots and lets her husband know about them. I would say "Lucky him".

liamsaunt,
Is there any way for us to see the series (if it's not asking too much)?

Thank you all for your comments and octopuses. I agree with nothintolose, hope we can see more pictures...
