Guitar (and/or Banjo) rental in USVI?

This is a long shot, but maybe someone has an idea and at least it is a new subject.
I will be staying in a villa on St John in December. I would like to have a guitar to play, but would prefer not to lug mine down when (for multiple reasons like possible damage from handling, putting it through extreme climate changes, and the hassle of lugging it). Any chance there is a place on either St John or St Thomas that would rent me a guitar for a week? Also am interested in renting a banjo. I don't need a great guitar.

What a great question. I hope you find an answer. I was just thinking the other day that it would be great to have a guitar around the villa!! I don't play myself, but I can imagine the late-night singalongs that it would inspire!

I dont think there is an instrument rental shop, especially for rare banjos. I'd just buy a really cheap pawn shop or children's guitar and bring that, you'll probably save money. Might not sound as good as your personal guitar, but with Painkillers flowing, no one will notice. Leave it behind for the next renters to enjoy:)

You can take a guitar as a carry on if you are already checking bags this may be an option.

I did ask around a bit about this very subject. The best answer I got was there is a music store on St Thomas. Nobody could tell me for sure if they did rentals.
I had the same thought as I sat in our villa. Out on the deck with the awesome view, no kids...perfect songwriting setting...but no guitar!
I'm sorry, I can't remember the name of the store. I'm sure someone here could help. Good Luck!
peace,

I've had this same issue. I've brought down my Strat in a hardshell in the past with no problems. But, I would much prefer not to do so.
So, what's the answer?

I looked in the Phone book and there are two places listed for Musical Instruments Rental:
Bones Band instrument Services in Nazareth 340-777-7669
Roadside Pan Yard in La Grande Princesses 340-773-8688
Don't know where either are or if they have guitars.
listed Music Stores:
Electronics Unlimited New Herrnhut 340-777-7000
Music Shoppe II Havensight Mall 340-774-1900
Hope this helps.

Your post reminded me of this comic, which made me laugh so hard when I first saw it...

It was Music Shop that one of the local musicians had recommended I check with.

Been a while since anyone has posted about this but found it when looking for information for a recent trip.
Music Shoppe II in Havensight Mall is where I rented mine. Great people there and it was only $75 a week. Downside, it was a Hohner (HW 300). Still it was better than taking a chance on having mine wrecked.

Well.......if you stay at our villa, Far Niente, we will let you use our guitar that we keep there......so I guess you just need to rent Far Niente!! PS: It's a great villa too!

Far Niente added to my list of villas.
Every year we go down, my wife tells me to bring my guitar. Every year I say I don't want to risk damaging it. Every year I sit there watching the sun rise or set and wish I had my guitar.

Are you Mary's spouse or has Far Niente been sold?

"Backtotheisland" is Tim and Mary, and we still own Far Niente, along with it's guitar!
