Hey kids... is the 4:00 pm running from downtown to STJ?
We're trying to finalize logistics for December arrival and need to know if we have to go all the way to RH.

I looked this up for my trip, and I remember reading that only the 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. ferries run from July to November. From that, it sounds like you will be able to catch the 4 p.m. ferry when you are there.
There is a phone number you can call (Varlack Ventures, I believe) to confirm on Anthony's ferry schedule page here.

It was not in August. I think the slow season + gas prices make.
It may be back in the swing in December though.

Not right now as they are only running 2 ferries per day (1 on weekends) but by December they should (well OK, might) be back to normal
Post closer to your trip and we'll have more info

Looks like they'll go back to a normal schedule on Nov. 1st.

Hey Lulu, I don't want to burst your bubble but I wouldn't count on it as last year it was December before it was back to "normal" (island time
) but we will keep our fingers crossed

Actually, when I re-checked my travel itinerary, it won't do me any good because I don't get in at 3:30; I get in at 4:30, so I have to take the 5:30 ferry regardless. (Assuming I can get a cab driver to take me to Charlotte Amalie, which didn't happen last year.)

Thanks guys!
We're bringing the in laws for their first visit. We get in at 2:30 and they arrive at 2:50. If the CA ferry is running at 4pm I'd rather take that.
If not, I want to book Rachel to get us to Red Hook for the 4:00 pm (but I think that's pushing it-- we'd have to get the bags pretty quickly -- and you know how that is!)
We prefer the longer ferry ride vs. the longer taxi ride (just personal preference).
I just want to get over to STJ before 5pm and not have to hassle with car rental closing times if I don't have to by getting there before 5pm (especially since it's a Sunday) and since it will be getting dark early-- according to Navy sunrise/sunset calendar sunset is at 5:43 and we have to get all the way to Coral Bay.
Last December we were unpacking in the dark (due to power outage) -- we're making sure that we have good flashlights with us this time cause the ones at the villa SUCKED!
If it was just us I wouldn't really care but I want to take care of the newbies and make sure their comfortable. They definitely don't want to be driving for the first time at night.
OK-- so here's a question -- shoudl we just aim for the the 4pm from Red Hook with Rachel? Can we make it?

If you do carry on only, yes

Hubby and I are checking a bag but I think they may be doing carry on only. So we may just do that. Thanks for the help figuring this out!

I think you can make it to Red Hook easily by 4 if they land at 2:50. Also, maybe its just been my luck but my flights into STT almost always get in a bit early.
With less flights and less people traveling it should be easier to get your bag quickly. It took us max 35 minutes to get to Red Hook in August.
The only problem with booking Rachel (and I am not saying this to discourage you at all because the service was great) was that when we arrived a good 15 minutes ahead of schedule and ended up having to wait for about 10 minutes whereas if we had not booked her we would have been in a taxi and off. So if your in-laws happen to arrive early give her a call and make sure you let her know you are there early.
