My new car has xm radio. I've never had this before. There are so many stations! I was playing around with it a little bit yesterday, but figured I would ask if anyone has favorite stations. I like all types of music except for Christian, really hardcore violent rap, and thrash metal. So, what are your favorites, and please include the station number if you know it offhand (Are the station numbers the same everywhere?? I have no idea!).

My new car came with Sirrius. I was able to download a channel list from thier website. XM may have the same.

I have Sirius, but had a rental with XM once. I loved Fred, channel 44 - '80s Alternative, Post Punk, and British Pop.

Saturday around 2 ish we were having a late lunch and we noticed that some good tunes were being played. It was acoustic and other covers of a variety of songs. I thought I heard the station identify itself as a Sirius channel, but I couldn't find a "cover/acoustic" channel when I looked on line today. Does anyone know what I was listening to?

Steve - if it was Sirius, maybe it was the "Coffee shop" channel. They do lots of acoustics and unique covers. Probably my favorite Sirius station.

Liamsaunt, I find myself listening to the following:

1. Channel 30 - XM Hitlist (some Top 40, but not as teeny bopper as channels 20 or 21)
2. Channel 47 - Ethel (90s rock, alternative)
3. Channel 50 - Loft (adult contemproary, I guess? - some folk, indie stuff)
4. Channel 101 - the Joint - REGGAE!
5. If you like politics, my husband is addicted to POTUS 08 (all election coverage, all the time) - Channel 130

Enjoy - between XM and my iPod, I'm not sure I remember what normal radio is anymore.

Love having xm in the car! And, if you weren't aware, you can stream it on your computer at no charge-great if your work allows it!

If you're near a big city they do traffic channels too which is helpful (at least it's helpful when I'm visiting them)

I'm an XM junkie.I have pretty diverse tastes in music and listen to the following most of the time:

Channel 12 X-Country
This station is an alternative country station with more of an Austin acoustic rock sound. Has no resemblance to the Nashville "Bubba Gum" stuff. No Chesney or Alabama. Fair amount of Willie though. They also do a couple hours a week of zydeco.

Channel 40 Deep Tracks

Rock and Roll, mostly bordering on "classic' with more songs from albums other then the "hit" songs, with very little redundancy. Dylan does a pretty cool Theme Time show on this station.

More of a softer rock format with the likes of James Taylor, Clapton, Bonnie Raitt. Pleasant, not objectionable, but not too exciting.

There are lots of good XM channels. One that I listen to a lot is Starbucks Cafe Channel 45. Some of the talk and comedy channels are good. There's BBC and PBS channels that I occasionally listen to for variety. You should be able to find a list of all the channels online. Have fun!

Doesn't seem to be this crowds thing but I'm loving Mandatory Metallica on Channel 51 this month!

I am reading this thread and thinking that I really need to hook up my XM radio. It's been sitting in the box in my bedroom for months...
