techni ice question

I decided to buy some techni ice for our upcoming trip and saw this on Ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... EF:US:1123

I'm wondering if this is the same stuff you guys use? I've seen the blue ones, but this is purple? Any difference? Dumb question, but there it is. :)

Also, it is available at Target or other retailers?

Thanks!

Hi Sarah - That is EXACTLY the same Technice I got. I also got mine on eBay. It works like a champ! After about 15 hrs. in transit to STJ from California, most of our stuff was still frozen solid. A few things were starting to thaw, but not enough to be a problem, and we just popped them in the freezer when we got to the villa.

P.S. That's a great price, too! I'd go for it!

Okay, so yesterday I decided to try out the techni ice and submerged it for 90 seconds, then put it in the freezer.

Are the cells supposed to expand? Mine are still pretty flat and I don't see how this can keep anything cold or frozen. I doesn't even feel that cold to me. I'm so confused! Did I do something wrong? Help! :)

I didn't scrunch......

I guess I'm not very good at reading ALL the directions. :)

Yeah, I had to nudge quite a few of the individual cells to get them all to expand. It took longer than the directions said, but it worked out just fine!

P.S. I always read the directions second, too! LOL!

In trying to plan our next SJ trip, I'm wondering if it is worth going to the expense of extra charge for
one cooler, or maybe two and the cost of the food
vs. just buying what we need on island? I like the
idea of taking what we want/need vs the time and $$
and some limited availability where my boyfriend
thinks we should take nothing ,and consider we're on
vacation-just eat out and buy what we need as we go..
It WOULD be maybe easier to decide if we didnt have
all the legs of the trip involved with planes, taxis,
water taxis, etc etc that we all experience to get to
beautiful St John.

It's really a preference thing. If you have to pay an extra fee to check a cooler then there's likely no cost savings. There is a time savings once you start your vacation.

We take a small cooler carryon packed with frozen food and no ice or gel packs (like techni ice). We buy most of our food when we arrive, but try to avoid a big shopping binge at the beginning.

Does it stay frozen? I'm afraid I'm not going to have much room for the techni ice in the small cooler. Actually, I'm thinking that last time we did this I wrapped everything in newspaper. I think all total, from leaving the house to getting to STJ, our trip will be about 8 hours or so...

I do it with a 24 hour time frame and have not had a problem

If you pack it tight it will be fine. No techni ice on carryon!

Rick, do you mean it's not allowed? Or just not needed?

We haven't flown for a while! LOL!
