Posting URLs

Hi everyone - I just want to make the point again that posting your URL or website as a post, i.e. making a new post that says "hey check out my website" - even if that website if great/cool/new/interesting - is not okay here. Please remember that this is a business and that we have dozens of paying advertisers/sponsors and they are what makes it viable for us to pay the hosting and make this our full time job. It is not your personal PR machine. I deleted a post early this week for exactly this reason. Believe me, we are lenient to lax about this most of the time - I hate to come off like a tough guy and I prefer to defer to the groups judgement - but everyone needs to be aware of it and to please respect that fact.

Thanks -

Seriously, I agree with you. Sometimes you are way lax in these matters.

P.S. - Anthony, this moratorium on URLs... it doesn't include building blogs does it? I find them fascinating. :)

Maybe it's just me, but I think a "building" blog is a very effective way to expose a villa to potential customers/renters (so in a way, it works as an advertisement). Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy reading them! However, it doesn't seem quite fair to the paying advertisers on this forum. Again, maybe this is just me thinking too much :( I'm sorry if I offend anyone.

Anthony, I'm with Bert in thinking that you are very liberal sometimes with what you allow in self promotion. I have always been amazed at how well you balance the scales of fairness regarding this issue. That said, there's always going to be thoughtless and/or greedy folks out to get a free lunch. I, for one, appreciate all that you provide us with, especially the effort that you put in to keeping the posts spam free.

Hey Antony

How about a "report this URL" button (or even message :) ) somewhere :?:

Since you posted this thread, there have been several suspicious posts. There's one now on the OT forum from someone who is trying to sell cell phones. I just think it's strange how it's picked up all of a sudden.
