Friends of mine returned from a church conference near Moscow a few weeks ago. It was a big gathering of mostly Russians and when the local government found out that a bunch of Christians were getting together they turned off the electricity in the area for two weeks.

So it is safe to say that freedom is NOT alive and well in Russia these days.

There is a large group of Russian immigrants that live in a small town near us. They belong to a Russian protestant sect (Church of God, I think). I have always assumed they came here for religious freedom.

I have never heard anything negative about them, they seem to be good neighbors. Occasionally the local WalMart carries Russian pastries and pushke sp? which are Russian doughnuts.

More oil fun. There was a good piece on fresh air recently correlating countries voting against the US in the UN and having oil reserves. Russia and Venezuela? Oil?

I think they're currently shocked to see that demand for oil is price elastic.

Cheers, RickG
