Superlurker newbie with a question

I should add OCD to that as I am reading this forum many times a day to fine tune my trip in January. We will be on STJ for 5 nights. (that's the longest friends will watch our kids

) That only gives us only 4 full days on the island.
My question is about our last day. We check out in the morning and our flight does not leave until 5:30 p.m. We would like to take the ferry to St. Thomas and do some shopping but we don't want to carry our luggage. Is there somewhere to check it? Can we take it to the airport and then come back? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for everyones posting as I love reading it all and I really love seeing the pictures. Makes me want to get a good underwater camera as we love to snorkel and can't wait to visit all of the beaches!
Thank you.

If you take the downtown ferry don't know if this is an option with the reduced trips. Ask the guy who is incharge of the taxis as you get off of the ferry that you want to have some one hold your luggage he will take care of you.

We took the Redhook ferry and asked the taxi driver. They were happy to store our luggage at the taxi stand downtown while we shopped. No charge. Not a high security set up, but worked well for us. Of course we tipped them well and also used their taxi to get us from CA to the airport. Their taxi stand was just West(?) of downtown shopping. Wish I could remember the taxi company name.

We used Miss Rachel this summer. She'll pick you up at airport, take you to Red Hook, you'll fill out paperwork for her to pick you up in STT for return and she'll hold your luggage in her van until she picks you up again in time for ride to airport. She is a wonderful, sweet lady who goes out of her way to accommodate you.

Sounds like you've got some great suggestions here. Just keep in mind that you cannot go through customs/security more than once in a single day. Once you are though you cannot leave and return.
Becuase of the way check-in/security/customs is set up. You cannot check your luggage and then leave the airport.

January will be in-season, so I'd recommend what I did last year. We took the Charlotte Amalie ferry over early, left our bags with our cab driver (for an additional charge, of course) and he picked us up when it was time to go to the airport.

How do you get a hold of Rachel?

Thanks to all! We will get a taxi - sounds easy and we would also like to know how to contact Ms. Rachel.
Thank you.

When we were there 4 years ago, they had a luggage check service right at the airport. I think it was $2 per bag, and they had a locked room just off the main lobby (before check-in and security). Don't they have that any more? (It was December... so maybe it's only in the high season????). Just wondering.

Rachel's number is 340 771 2986. We used her in July and she's a jewel. Well worth the money.

KathyMN-- I think in a post 9/11 world they would call that luggage storage service a BSS (Bomb Storage System) and for security reasons not the best idea. I'm guessing that service hit the skids about the same time the liquor delivery to the airport did. Damn I miss that service!
It was SO great. You went to AH Riis, picked out your booze and they had it waiting for you at the airport for pickup on the day of departure. It was a model of efficiency. Now I think TSA would view that as a MCOWTH: malatov cocktail opportunity waiting to happen!
I hate bin laden -- he's screwed us in so many ways!!

Did you think about a travel day charter? I've never done it, but it sounds like a good idea to me. Check out
www.motoryachtcinnamonbay.com .We've used their services twice so far, and swear by them. Our party is renting a jeep on STT this October, so we don't need that type of thing, but we'll be (hopefully) enjoying a daysail with them this coming trip to Jost or maybe Willy T's.
There are plenty of other charters, as well. Just thought I'd remind you of that option.

We used Christopher's Taxi this year. You could leave your suitcases with him. He was reliable and charming!
