Survived Gustav!

Hi Everyone, I'm finally back online (at work - no internet at home, yet) for the first day since Gustav. Our neighborhood looks like a war zone, but we're ok & so is our house minus a few shingles & trees. A house on our street & 2 others just around the corner were completely destroyed, so I am counting my blessings. We got the final debris hauled away from the yard yesterday. We got electricity back Saturday night (I was so happy!). Still no cable or internet. Work was shut down all last week due to no power, so I sat at home in the heat all last week going stir crazy. The wind from this one really scared me. I hope Ike doesn't come here. I don't wish him on anyone else, but we surely don't need another one!

It's good to hear that you made it through! If Ike can fizzle out, that would make many people happy!

An older lady that lives 2 houses down from me told me that she was praying that Gustav would die down and not do damage anywhere. I started thinking about how I was praying for it to go somewhere else. I think I like her idea better! I doesn't make me feel so bad when it does go somewhere else!
Hopefully things will get better soon! It looks like Ike will go more towards Houston but I'm not sure about the wind and rain that go with it. If it gets too close to shore on it's way there we could still get a lot of flooding in the lower sections of the state. I don't know where you are but I'll be thinking about you!

We live a few miles south-southeast of Baton Rouge (between Baton Rouge & New Orleans, but closer to Baton Rouge - 15 or 20 minutes from B.R. & about 45 minutes from N.O.)

Hi Cat - that is the same exit that we live off of. I need to look at the latest on Ike. Last I saw, he was headed to Texas. I hope he doesn't flip back towards us. He just needs to go away!

Wow - that is scary looking! The computer models that were updated at 2:00p.m. EDT are all pointing towards Texas.

Hey! What happened to Josephine? All of a sudden she's not on the maps any more. Did she disintegrate?

cruiserkcs - glad to hear you have your power back now.
One of my clients here told me she just got hers back today. Some of the people in Lafourche Parish have been told it may take two to four weeks to get theirs back!

So glad that you are OK from the storm. I was talking to my brother and as kids growing up in Florida, a Cat 3 storm was rare. It seems like Cat 3 & 4 storms are the norm now. God help the folks that are getting hit by Ike – he’s a bad one.
