Great wildlife day on STJ today

We had a stellar day today with wildlife sightings. First thing this morning, my son found a baby scorpion (eeeek!!!) under the couch. I immediately yelled for my husband to get it out--he used a broom to get it into a cup, and dumped it far away from the house! We decided to go to Little Lameshur this morning based on a great report from our host, Jan. She was right! I'd never been out past Salt Pond before, but this was the most exciting snorkel I think we've ever had. We snorkeled on the right side near the rocks, and we started off seeing a hawksbill turtle right away:

Next we saw a stingray:

And then the best sea critter yet: a spotted eagle ray! But no photo
. We're still getting used to this camera, and I think it must have automatically shut off. It was cloudy in the water out there, so it was hard to see the LCD screen, and I didn't notice it was off. In any case,it was huge and graceful and just wonderful to watch.
As we left Little Lameshur, we saw a mongoose and a mama and baby deer.
Later in the day I went to Trunk on my own, and a guy snorkeling there told me he'd just seen a pretty big shark out at the end of the cay, but I wasn't in the mood for a shark encounter (especially by myself!), so I turned back to shore.
Tonight when we got home from dinner (mmmm, Sweet Plantains), we saw a gecko running under a picture frame in the house. And of course, we always see the skeeters (but really Jorge, they are getting better!).
So all in all, a great day. One more full day tomorrow, maybe Cinnamon or Vie's beach, then we start for home Sunday if Hanna will let us get there....
