Great picture Anthony... I'll be flying into STT tomorrow afternoon from Miami - threading the needle between these two beasts. I've been following the development of these two storms for days now. Can't wait until I'm on the ground, on the ferry, and on St. John...

Beautiful picture, nasty bad storms! I'm holding my breath for the Cayman Islands and the Gulf Coast, particularly New Orleans!

My husband and I were evacuated from Little Cayman on Wednesday, ending our vacation just one day early. (There were only 23 tourists on island at that time, and all of us left. About 160 residents--the vast majority--stayed on island.) According to caymannetnews.com, the "all clear" has been issued for Grand Cayman, but Little Cayman and Cayman Brac residents are being urged to remain inside until powerlines are repaired and debris is cleared from roads. No reports of injuries, thank goodness. I am awaiting reports from friends living in LC for specific property damages.

Wow....thanks for the link Anthony.

Another site I like to follow during times like this is:
www.stormcarib.com (the Caribbean Huricane Network).
It gives you latest updates but also lets you link to your choice of islands with updates from locals who are there going through the storm.....& yes, STJ is there!

Those of us in here in south Louisiana are keeping a close eye on Gustav. We stocked up on hurricane supplies & the store shelves are pretty much empty. Contraflow on the interstates & major highways start in the morning to evacuate New Orleans & other areas, so we are pretty much homebound at that point since it would be difficult to get back to the house from anywhere. We pray this does not turn into another Katrina.

Thanks Anthony for the link and you guys for the well wishes.

Jerry and I are leaving in the middle of the night tonight in hopes of avoiding the major traffic and heading to Rosemary Beach, Florida praying that it won't change it's mind and head that way.

Florida deserves a break after Fay so hopefully the hurricane gods will leave it alone.

Keep your fingers crossed for us as the city is just starting to look good again in most areas. At least we have learned alot of lessons from Katrina and evacuations of those that need it have been going smoothly.

As I told some fellow forumites in an email, "You may ask yourself why we continue to live here after all we have been through and this kind of stress, well for those of you that have visited, you know there is a magic about our city that you just don't find anywhere else. The food, the music, the spirit. I do plan to return and continue living here after Gustav; we are just taking a little unplanned vacation. I am convinced that we are in a phase of some years of bad storms, and it will quiet down like it has been for all, but the last 11 years of my life with 2005 being the worst so far."

p.s. I have told Anthony before that the forum helped me through alot of hard times after Katrina when everything around us seemed so bad. It was an escape for me. We had just come back from STJ a month before, and although I couldn't bring myself to post at the time, I lurked alot and ya'll's posts and trip reports were the best therapy I could have gotten so thanks!
