OK folks, just a heads up that if you are arriving this week the mosquitos are out in full force after the rain we had from (pre) Fay :(

You might want to bring coils/spray with you.

Sorry to bring you the bad news - but hey I did see my octopus (couldn't resist :) )

Jorge you might want to pick up a thermacell unit they work great but you would have to ship the butane cartriages down unless someone on island has them

There is really no way they will be AS bad in two weeks--or even two days, thankfully.
Yesterday and today are the peak hatch out days after the 4 to 6 inch rain (depending on area of island) of last week.Mosquito eggs can stay viable in the soil for incredible lengths of time (years) until there's enough water for them to hatch--thus, the longer we go without a really big rain, the worse the bugs after the deluge. This is not to say that there won't be mosquitoes in September, just not like THIS

Pia is definitely not exaggerating--the mosquitos are BAD! A little better tonight than last night, though, so maybe the worst is over? (she says hopefully!). For some reason they are not biting me as much as usual, but my son's poor friend is getting eaten up. We did stop by St. John Spice today and bought *3* bug zappers! It's so satisfying to hear the skeeters sizzle. Ruth was not in, but Ron was (and Ron, I DO know your name, even though I called you Mr. Ruth today!). It was very funny, because the new employee who was there for Pipanale's "show" was also there today, and I think she is still traumatized...too funny!

Do these Thermacell units really work as well as the description says?

Jorge, I'm a mosquito magnet also. There has been no rain in the Northern VA area for several weeks but the mosquito's are out in biblical proportions and they're all attacking me! RickG and I were working out in the yard for a couple of hours yesterday and I'm an itchy mess. We've done a lot of work in our backyard and I can't even sit outside to enjoy it! :x

Hey Jorge

I just checked my airlines list of "not allowed in luggage" list and it states no butane :(

I was hoping to buy some on my next trip Stateside but I can't check the butane in luggage :(
Let me know if you figure out a way to get them here.
