Thought I would finish up my cousin's trip report. I left off on Day 6 - Sailing with Forever Young. We love sailing with Betty and Larry. We have become friends with them after booking our first trip with them back in 2005. They are wonderful people, have a beautiful boat and are excellent sailors.

Jay and I both had the day off, so we were excited about getting the chance to go sailing. We loaded up the car with lots of "provisions" and headed to Latitude 18. Forever Young is moored near their dock so Larry thought it would be easier to be picked up there instead of over in Red Hook. The road to get there was crazy, my Celica had a heck of time with all the pot holes and ruts. But we finally made it and started unloading everything. Let me tell you, getting off Latitude 18's dock into a dingy is not an easy task. Poor Angie with her foot in a cast trying to climb down into the boat, it was not fun. We loaded everything in and Jay untied us from the dock and when he threw the line into the boat he hit Angie's foot with a metal ring on the end of the line.....ouch! We finally get everyone to the boat and everything unloaded and put away. Man, it's a lot of work having this much fun. Time for a cocktail.

We set the sail and headed for Lovango Cay. The day had started out kinda dreary but it was clearing up nicely. We had a nice sail with just the right amount of wind. Jay took the helm, made a couple of tacks, and before we knew it, we were sailing by Carval Rock. Rumor has it that "back in the day" these rocks were used by the pirates to set their sights on their cannons. That's why it's all sheared rock. Gotta love pirate stories.

Then we made it to our destination. North side of Lovango Cay which is adjacent to Congo Cay. The water was beautiful, very calm, great snorkeling. They have a few new mornings there, so if you're out on a boat, you need to check it out. This is a picture of Congo Cay, it doesn't do it justice. Somehow me missed getting a picture of the north side Lovango where the snorkeling is....I think we were too busy taking in the sights and fixing cocktails :D

After we finished lunch and everyone was back from snorkeling, we headed over to St. John. It was a straight shot over to Hawksnest Bay. So it was an easy sail, no tacking. We picked up a mooring near Oppenheimer Beach. Just beautiful!

We enjoyed a dip in the water and maybe a cocktail or too and then it was time to head home. It was a great day and Larry and Betty were gracious hosts. We got Angie back into the dingy and back up on the dock. We headed back down that crazy road from Latitude 18 and back to the house. Everyone was exhausted so we just hung at the house. I don't know what it is about being out on the water, but it really takes it out of you. Or it could have been all the cocktails, who knows.

Here is a video of the sail over to Lovango.

I watched your video twice. I somehow need to stay sane until May. That song really tells the story.
Thanks for sharing it.
