MB - much much easier. The road up over Gorda Peak is very wide and the grades arent that steep. Going down to North Sound and Leverick from Gorda Peak there are some steeper twistys but not bad at all compared to STJ or even STT.
The road up the western shore is now paved out past Mahoe Bay but the unpaved sections are still kinda rutted up past Nail Bay, although more sections are added all the time - just bumpy, not up and down like STJ or Tortola.
The central town and south end of the island is basically flat and a piece of cake to get around.
You are also less likely to encounter road bullies/tailgaters on VG. There is actually room for them to pass on some sections of the Gorda peak road.

I second what jmq writes, much easier to drive on VG compared to STJ. Only in Leverick bay and down to Gun Creek (where ferries leave to Bitter End, Saba Rock, Biras) is very steep.
Just want to add that there are MANY speed bumps in "town" and the southern part. So you have to drive slow there anyway.

yeah but no time soon. I was just reading something over the weekend that made me wonder how the driving was. our 2009 trip is planned - the one after that, whenever that may be, would likely include VG.

PA Girl, I hope you love your trip to VG as much as we did. I am pea green with envy! I want to go back so bad my teeth hurt!
I actually originally had a trip back planned for next June before switching to the full sail charter. We will have newbies with us (friends from Kuwait), so of course, we will just have to make a pit stop. Hope it doesn't hurt too bad.
Next trip after the charter will be straight back to Guavaberry and VG!

I am so sad (and so spoiled!) about missing STJ (old enjoyable habits are hard to break!) in February but I am working on a summer 2009 trip to STJ.
I am so excited about VG, especially after the information you and others shared.
We have been going back and forth about a sail charter for a long time. Our son is a bit too young but we are thinking in 4 or 5 years.

One question--how can driving anywhere be easier than on STJ?
