I am in the process of planning for a trip next summer and was wondering what areas of St john are most heavily involved in new construction. There will be 6 adults and a toddler and would like to avoid all the noise if possible. I realize there is construction going on all over the island, but are some areas worse than others? Thanks for your help.

We stayed on Bordeaux Mtn. in May and it was quiet as a tomb (in a good way). There was zero noise at the villa that we rented - Summer Wind. http://www.caribbeanvilla.com/summerwind/index.html We loved the house and rented it for June of next year.

Diana,
Summer Wind looks great! We're looking for a place for early February for 2 couples. Did you drive into Cruz Bay alot? Did you find it a hassle? Is this villa easy to get too? Are you going to post a villa review?
Thanks!

Summer Wind is super easy to get to and has great parking too. I'd say it's 16-18 minutes from town. It's just down the road from Chateau Bordeaux. You're ten minutes from Coral Bay and Maho Bay beach. PM me with questions.

I love North Shore Catherinberg. No construction, quiet, right over the best beaches, killer views. KY Girl just stayed at La Jolla Caribe and loved it. Someone else just stayed at Anole and liked it. there are others. i have stayed at several and am partial to La Jolla Caribe. Good luck, lots of great choices.

There is much less construction going on right now than in the past. There will probably be even less next year.

A quite place to stay on St John

I would suggest the Skytop area above Fish Bay. It's about 10 minutes from town in a fairly established enclave. At the very top of the mountain are two nice villas: South Shore Villa www.stjohnrental.com and Sol Inclination. Since both Villas are facing/bordering the National Park, at the top of the mountain, and always have a good breeze; they rarely experience any noise.

Much of the construction on St John has slowed with the downturn in the economy. Now is a great time to visit. Good luck.
