We are looking at another trip in October. Likely staying at Serendip condos. Since we went high end in May, we must go budget to get back there. Problem being:airfare from KC. Delta has very few flights and is 765.00 per person. I can get American for 500.00pp which is great, but we wouldn't arrive until 8pm and we'd have to spend the night on STT. We'd still save over 300 bucks even after paying for the hotel. That'd just about cover our jeep rental. Then, we'd have to leave at 8:20am to return. Not a big deal because the last day is a bummer for me anyway, but we'd have to catch the 1st ferry to STT. Anyone done that for their flight?
Lastly, do water taxi's run later at night? Even using a private water taxi, we'd still save money. Just looking at options! We have plenty of vacation time so we'd be staying more than a week.
Thanks for your experience/opinions!

I remember Dohm's running at night and early morning and there was a surcharge for off hours (don't know the amount)

I found this on the Dohms website. I would take the less expensive flight and either take Dohm's to St. John or spend a night on St. Thomas and relax.

I am so jealous! I have been trying to convince my husband that we need to go in the fall but I don't think he's going to budge. I did not get my fill staying at Sol Inclination in June because I got sick and was miserable for a good portion of the trip...I feel cheated and need to go back!

Thanks for the info ladies! We'll just have to decide soon!
Teresa-keep working on hubby. You never know. You definitely deserve it after being sick at Sol. Going from that trip to trying to do it as cheap as possible is tough! I think if we go with the cheap airfare we can possibly do it for 3,000 total and that's with no shopping or fancy dinners, but still eating/drinking at our favorite places.
It's there or a road trip through Colorado or Yellowstone. We'll see what wins!

Why would you have to overnight in STT after arriving at 8PM?? The Red Hook ferry runs until midnight (no 10PM though I think).

Nic - I believe the forum rule is that you have to complete your trip report from the LAST trip BEFORE you book your NEXT trip!!
I understand how you feel - on the last day of every St. John trip I am already trying to figure out when we can go back!
Gook luck with the fall trip planning.

Diana-just FYI, the reason we'd have to overnight in STT is that as of right now, the two later ferries into STJ have been cancelled through November.
JDW-That's actually the rule I've given myself!

I'm not allowed to actually book the next trip until I finish my trip report! I'm off on Friday so hoping to have it done then! I haven't given up on the idea!

Nic - Actually, I think the only 2 ferries that aren't running right now from Red Hook are the 8PM and the 10PM. You've still got the 9, 11 and midnight trips. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong as I'm planning on one of these myself in October...

We have taken that flight that arrived at 8pm. We are also from KC. It wasn't a problem. Went on Red Hook Ferry. Arrived in STJ about 10pm. Courtesy rental car met us at the dock with our car and paperwork. Got to our villa on the other end of the island about 1130. And this was our first trip to the island. NO Problems.

I knew there was a reason I posted! When I saw the 8 and 10pm being cancelled, I just took that as all of the later ones!

How on earth would people who work late on STT get back to STJ? That should have clued me in! Thanks for clarifying Randy and Tom!! That makes it much easier, although I still don't like the 10 hour travel day!
