From Frank Barnako newsletter - who exactly would be using these cabanas? I don't get the attraction here, not at that price anyway.

Westin adding cabanas, moving restaurant
The Westin Resort is adding half a dozen private, tent-covered cabanas overlooking its huge pool. Each will be outfitted with plasma TVs, iPod docking stations, and refrigerators," Graeme Davis, the resort's general manager, told the St. John Tradewinds. The price is $200 a day - but that includes what Davis said would be "complimentary bottles of water and fruit and chilled towels."

Davis also said that the Snorkels restaurant is being moved to open up more beach view and access. A new million dollar facility is near completion, the Tradewinds reported,, "So guests are no longer looking into a kitchen," Davis said. The new facility also makes it easier for the resort ton provide banquet and catering services. He also said new restrooms and changing areas are being added.

I only have experience with one hotel in Las Vegas, but at that hotel, if you got to the pool early enough (or if you reserved it ahead) cabanas were FREE, including fridge, fruit & water. There was also a cocktail waitress that came around frequently to make sure you weren't managing to stay sober (alcoholic drinks were not free, however). The Westin must be ever so much more exclusive! 8)

Well - it must be dipped in Gold to be worth $200 per day. What a hoot!!

I saw this too and think it's ridiculous! $200 for some water, a coupla pieces of fruit and "chilled" towels? Just how long are those towels going to STAY chilled in the heat anyway?

Whatever......LOL!

I've seen these cabanas at other resorts: the Westin and Ritz-Carlton in Grand Cayman. The cabana at the Westin in GC was about the same price. Not that I could afford it or need it, but it does give some privacy and shade. I saw a family that had a small baby renting one, so they probably wanted to protect the baby from the sun. This Westin didn't have umbrellas.

I'm sure the Westin on St. John will have no problem in renting these cabanas.
