Spider I.D.

So last week we drove out to Lameshur just to give my cousin, who had never been to St. John, a look. I get out of the Grand Vitara to take some shots of the beautiful bay...I snap a few, only to hear the girls that I left in the car (wife, cousin) at me to come back because a 'huge' spider had just landed himself on the windshield...Huge he was...and fast. Very fast. I got in the car, took the two pics attached, drove about forty feet until I realized everyone really wanted this thing off the car. Stopped the car, got out (spider had moved over to my wife's window, found a stick, and tried to nudge him off...Yeah, he was fast...He then ran to my son's window...I was able to flick him off with the stick...He fell on the ground and instead of heading back to his holy land (the woods 6 inches from where he landed), he RAN back up under the wheel well...Never to be seen again the rest of the trip.
Anyway, pretty sure not a tarantula...We were talking to a guy at a shop in CB about it, and he said probably not a tarantula, more likely a wolf spider...Which he then proceeded to tell us would "make you sick as hell if it bit you...". Fun.
Just interested in what type it is...Any guesses?

Could it be a Brown Recluse?

See if you recognize him on this video. Maybe he's one of the crack spiders since he seemed kinda crazy.

SoxFan - He didn't look too big on that first picture - the second one really puts it into perspective. I have no idea what kind it is and sure hope I don't meet any on my next trip.
Pjayer, that IS a funny video - I wasn't sure what to expect, but that wasn't it!
now all these spiders are starting to creep me out......

Here's a link to "What's that Bug". Page down to the Golden Huntsman Spider - I think it looks a lot like yours...

You know, it DOES look a lot like the Brown Recluse, but it seems bigger than this one, which is just a little larger than a quarter: http://creatures.ifas.ufl.edu/urban/spi ... luse01.htm

ccasebolt...I think you've got it! Sounds like a pretty harmless spider, found mostly in the tropics but also in Florida and the Southwest.
Thanks!
CAGirl...I would say it is probably not a brown recluse...They are small and kind of "wiry", and this guy was BIG - but evidently harmless.

I'm so glad you asked about this. We found a similar looking spider on the mosquito net around our bed! It freaked me out.

Jay thankfully calmly captured it in a cup and put it outside, but I didn't sleep well that night. Good to know that it wasn't a poisonous variety, but it was still scary.
