Newbie Report--Leaving

The day you go home from a vacation is never easy, but it is difficult to leave such a beautiful place.
We cleaned out the refigerator and had an interesting breakfast of ice cream, toast and a Rice Krispy treat for Greg, toast and an apple for me, and chips, cheese and guacamole for Layne!
We cleaned up and said goodbye to the house. We were all very quiet as we drove into town and caught our last glimpses of the scenery.
Greg dropped me off at Connections to print boarding passes while they returned the car. I met them in front of St John Spice, and they had already bought tickets for the 10:00 ferry! What?!! We were planning on the 11:00!! No time to say goodbye. It was a quick walk of woe since the ferry was leaving in 5 minutes.
Of course, that put us at the airport way too early. Just as went through customs, the power went out. The generator kicked in, but the customs officer told us that it could be 3-4 hours before it came back on. We went to the "cafe"--(Wow, none of you had mentioned the limited choices at the airport!). Greg bought us cold ham(?) sandwiches and chips since he thought the other food would be cold without power. As we were choking down our sandwiches, the power came back on. We finsihed our chips salivating over the fries at the next table. I'm sure they weren't that good, but they would have beat the pasty white bread sandwich.
Layne and I played cards. Greg went and got two of our seats changed to exit row for the flight home. Of course, they weren't together, so all three of us flew home in different rows, but a little time apart after a week together can be a good thing! After a long travel day, we were home by 12:30 the next morning.
Final thoughts: St John truly is a beautiful island! We were not disappointed at all. We did learn that Layne is not a snorkeler and that I really need to be sand-free and showered immediately upon leaving the beach to avoid an irritable attitude. Greg, however, the one who never wanted to take a beach vacation, may end up retiring and moving to an island!! He was more relaxed on St John than I've seen him in years.
Obviously, we'll need to go back!
