Snorkel Equipment

I believe this was discussed not too long ago, however I wanted to know where is the best place to purchase snorkel equipment online? I usually always rent when we go down to St. John, but I think its time to go ahead and get my very own set!

I don't know where to tell you to get it on-line, but I would suggest you purchase your mask where you can try it on because if it doesn't fit right, it will leak on you.
I can tell you that SO bought a mask here in New Orleans from a local dive shop. When we were on STJ at Cruz Bay Watersports in summer 2007, the same mask was actually cheaper than what he paid for it here.

Personally, I wouldn't order a mask or snorkel on-line. I like to try them on to make sure I get a good fit. There's nothing more irritating that a leaky, foggy mask.

To me, masks are like shoes. Unless you've already tried one on you like, it fits well, and you know the brand and style ahead of time, I'd shy away from a blind on-line purchase- especially if you're investing in a good mask. NJ should have some decent dive shops that will properly fit you with a mask.
I actually purchased my current mask from Low Key on STJ. The one I had which was a very good mask, wasn't fitting well when I used it a few times. Found one that fit much better at Low Key.

I bought my mask at Low Key also. They have a wide selection and if you print out their coupon on line, there's another 10% off. With the coupon and no tax, I don't know if a bricks & mortar shop in the states can compete.

I hit our local dive shop for mask shopping. They last a decade or better and fit is important. Whenever someone complains about their mask I drive them to Low Key and find my favorite spot at the Beach Bar. It never takes more than one Dark & Stormy for them to find something that works.

If you are near a Costco they have a nice $50 set with back pack.

Just my opinion, but buying a mask on the Internet would be like buying a set of false teath on the Internet.
You need to be properly fitted cosidering the size of your head, face type, features etc. The mask is the single most important piece of equipment you will buy so go to a good dive shop and have them fit you.

I'm so used to renting equipment and using whatever they give me. I didn't realize that you can get masks that fit true to your head, face, etc. Good to know!
