Fairly major power outage on St. John

The power is out on St. John - from a friend:
"fyi, islandwide power outage since 3 AM, coral bay is back, say ours (Cruz Bay)
back 2 pm, battery ranout on phones so most lines r down, tryin 2 do
email on cell
"

Thanks, Anthony! I was just getting ready to make some calls, so I'll hold out until later today in hopes that they're back up and running!
I guess I can do real work while I wait...

This happen to us last year around the same time!I remember that it when out around 5:00p.m. and didn't come on untill 2:00A.M.And boy,it was a roaster inside Samuel cottage #2!!!

Just came on at Noon in town! Two hours ahead of schedule....so far still solid after 15 minutes so not a tease....i hope! Just came on in Great Cruz Bay/Chocolate Hole a minute ago.

This is actually a very good story to read.
In the old days, say more than 15 years ago, the power often would go off everyday. Power outages were normal and frequent.
WAPA is a lot more reliable now that an outage is considered a story!

MLS is right...
Years ago a long power outage was normal. STJ had a generator affectionately named "The Green Hornet" There was one man on island that could start it up.
If he was off island everyone was SOL!
