Home Roasted Coffee

A couple of the posters on here (Rick G and Ron L) had referenced roasting their own coffee beans in some of the posts I've read.

I even sent a PM to Rick on the subject to find out a little more, and he gave me some great info.

Leslie must have grown tired of always seeing the coffee roaster on my wish lists, because I got one this year on Father's Day! It's a Fresh Roast Plus 8, and it came with an assortment of "green" coffee beans.

I finally got a chance to open the box this past weekend, and have been enjoying some AWESOME coffee this week - some from Guatemala up until today, and I'm having a cup from Brazil right now.

Like I told Ron, I'm afraid that I'm spoiled now!

Thanks for the tips guys - sure has helped to brighten my mornings!

Such a cute little roaster. Watch it close, because it roasts fast. We used one for 18 months and finally upgraded to the Heathware I-Roast 2 that will do 6 oz.

I'm enjoying Guatemala Fraijanes - Finca Agua Tibia through our Solis Master 5000 espresso machine. Christine is addicted to espresso, but I like drip and french press too.

Maybe a "What's In Your Mug" thread is required. About 10 years ago we took a side trip into the coffee roasting business. The roaster was a high-tech design fired by wood pellets, and the coffee was excellent. We used Columbian and Arabica beans. One of the partners ran off with the roaster...and our investment.

No we buy beans from The Evil Empire - a mix of Columbian (for the base note), Sumatra (for the bold middle), and French Roast (for the high kick). Beans are ground every morning in the Capresso. A baggie of the ground mix always makes it to STJ in the carry on bags.

That's all I need to do is tell Stephanie I want a coffee roaster to go with the bean grinder, expresso machine, drip coffee maker and the beans I buy out of California. So much for being in a recession.

How much roast do you go thru in a week, rick? Seems like we have at least 4 coffee addicts going down. should we each bring a pound? We usually get one of the small lot Konas to take down, but I may be leaning twords a different varietal this year. This thread reminds me that my 10 lb bag of Colombia Antioquia-Jardin Cerulean Warbler is almost done. I think I am going African...maybe Mokah Sana'ani for this next bag. I like the initial hit it gives over the more mellow Central Americans.

We will likely bring a 1/2 # of whatever, but more is always possible.

I like the IRoast2, like Rick has for small batch roasting. Rather than go with the lil Fresh Roast, I went the way of the popcorn popper. Maybe I'll get that IRoast for my birthday this year. It's either that, or a trip to STJ..................



......oh......wait.....I'll take the trip!!!!!!
