Seems like this restaurant gets good reviews. What makes it so great ? Food? Ambience? View? What would you recommend from the menu?

I think all of the above - and the great staff.

We liked the fish & chips and/or jumbo shrimp. Bushwackers for dessert!

I'm kind of partial to Shipwreck. If you order off the regular menu, you get pretty okay, better then most, but mundane, easy to prepare type food. However, if you order from the daily specials posted on a board as you walk in the front door, you often get a meal as good as from some of the "fine" eateries on STJ. The frozen/blender drinks are about as good as it gets. Service is often on island time, so relax, or be like me and order two at first, if they seem real busy. The music nights can be great, but fuzzy memories. The bartenders are wonderful, one in particular was voted "best pour" on STJ. The locals are friendly, as long as you're not a demanding state-sider. It's got a pretty nice view. Parking sometimes requires some ingenuity. Other then all that, the place sucks.

For me, it's the ambiance. Warm lighting, island cats, good mix of locals and tourists, gentle breezes and often good live music. The food is good and, as mentioned, the specials are excellent. Don't know if they still have it or not, but don't skip the peanut butter pie - in fact, order a whole one and take it back to your villa. The view is decent though I hardly ever even look at it as I'm absorbed with people watching. I love the Dark & Stormy there, but the blender drinks are very good as well.

It is the best restaurant EVER!!!!! I think it's a mix between the view, the people, the food, the music, etc.

I never leave STJ without at least 2 meals of the Fish & Chips. The funny thing is that I never eat them at home. It's their special tartar sauce (which is more like a dill sauce) that makes them taste so darn good

We enjoy Shipwreck because it is very laid back. Nice breezes, a view of a palm tree and out to the bay, chickens and cats wandering through, and the food is good. We heard a good band there one evening. Hubby always gets the fish special from the board and its always good. He likes their Bushwackers because they are more chocolatey than other places. I get the grilled shrimp on salad - very good. Their key lime pie is the best.

Shipwreck Landing like most of the other restaurants in Coral Bay are local places. We tourists get to visit and be like locals for a week, 10days or more. The local watching at the bar is VERY INTERESTING!

We went there several times in May for lunch and dinner. Great meals every time. One night on our way out of the villa driveway I gashed my foot on the "donkey gate". When we got to Shipwreck I asked the waitress if I could get some ice for my foot. She looked at my ankle, said "Oh my God" and came back with ice in a bag as well as a towel to cover the ice. That's just being nice. Probably saved my ankle from being a mess the next day.

Can't wait to return in next May!!

Dittos on the Fish and Chips. I think I had them 3 times our last stay in the Coral Bay area.....

I love the mussels. I have never had a bad meal there off the regular menu or the board. Ditto on the bushwackers.

I think I like everything about the place! I have not had a bad meal there, but my favorite is the Mahi! I'm not big on fish and chips, but it is good there. I didn't think I would ever go there and order steak, but after a day of painkillers on JVD it was just what I needed and very, very good. It is also a fun place to belly up to the bar, order a drink and chat with the locals.

I have only had drinks here in the past (always loved them and the bartenders and view) but this thread has me wanting to make sure that this is a meal stop on my trip next year. I'm also seriously craving peanut butter and key lime pie
