Hello,
When you go to St. John, how do you take your money, traveler checks, cash, gift card. I know some place will not take traveler checks. This will be my frist trip, what are some of the top beaches, we will be there for 10 days.
Thanks
Kenny

We always use a mix of cash and credit/debit cards. There is an ATM on island if you need more cash, and most restaurants take plastic. Never felt the need for travelers checks.
Have a great trip!

Have plastic, will travel
Cash is really only needed in a few places and if you take any taxis.
Travelers checks are just a P.I.T.A.

With the avialibility of ATM's around the world these days travelers checks are virtualy obsolete. Now if you like to do everything in cash and don't use CC's I can totally understand them as an option. But like the previous poster said they are a PITA.
One caveat-- sometimes the ATMS are broken or not working due to the occasional power outage. So when I get down to $100 I usually swing by an ATM. Just don't recommend getting down to $) and needing cash cause that's when the ATm won't be working!
Also, I'm a bix Amex fan and happy to sya that in addition to MC and Visa most places are taking Amex.

I haven't been to St. John in a few years and would like to know what restaurants refuse Amex cards. I prefer to use my Amex for points and may avoid restaurants that don't accept it. Although, i may break down to use a Visa if I really have to.

We mostly use credit cards. I use Traveler's checks for boat trips. It's nicer than brining a wad of cash down.

Tropic-- I found that MOST restaurants take Amex. But I take my Visa jsut in case they don't (or cash). I don't think there's a comprehensive list.
I also tend to tip in cash though for the servers. Just so they get the FULL tip from the restaurant.

Gromit brings up a good point with cash tips. If you tip in cash the server gets the full tip. Not always the case if you add a tip to your bill and pay with your CC.

I often find that if I drop that little nugget at the beginning of the meal (in a casual way) that we get really good service...
