Hi,
Does anyone have any info on Avalon villa through Catered To? It looks pretty new, is a large 5 bedroom place, but I can't find any reviews or comments on it. Also, does anyone know exactly where it is in Chocolate Hole (overlooking Pond Bay development?).

Thanks for the help!

Avalon is an older home that was previously called Fort Miles. It was sold a couple of years ago and the new owners have done some renovations and added a/c I believe. It's in a great location on Maria Bluff and sits below Orchid Hill Villa. Avalon faces east or southeast and the views are to Ram's Head (not sure about Pond Bay but even if you can see it, I don't think it will be the main focus). I considered renting it last summer but passed on it because I thought the rent was pretty steep even with the last minute discount (we had only 5 people). There are more luxurious homes (or at least they appear to be) in great locations that are a better value for the $$$$ in my opinion.

I generally find that Catered to and McLaughlin Anderson have nice villas but VERY high prices comparatively.

Catered To manages all the houses they list, McLaughlin Anderson manages none on St. John. As strictly a broker, McLA might be adding fees over what the managing agent is charging.

Avalon is a Catered To house that I have stayed in many times when it was Fort Miles. It is a historically important house built early, maybe mid60's. It has twice been more or less distroyed by hurricanes, then rebuilt. Hopefully the new owners have the old photos and literature about the early days of Fort Miles.

The house was situated to catch the breezes, which it unfortunately succeeded too well in doing a couple times. Consequently it is usually quite windy. That is a good thing as there are virtually no "critters," but the pool can be quite cold if there is still no heater. The views are quite nice with little below you;the waves are easily heard. It looks right into Pond Bay from the bedroom wing, but that is not visible from the pool or dining area. From the pool patio and the main room deck you get that great unobstructed east-southern views that affords very nice privacy. Avalon is a terrific night sky house. The living areas are large and expansive-it is hard to believe the floorplan is over 40 years old.

A 5th BR must be the old office which would make it very small.

As the first house I stayed in on STJ (way before Catered To), it also holds nostalgic value to me.

Thanks for the quick replies, I remember Ft. Miles, didn't connect that Avalon is the same. Very helpful!
