After being off lined by a thunderstorm that blew up my router I'm now linked the old fashioned way after being w/o a puter for way too long!!!!
Checked on our AA FF points as we now just have enough to finally do something with them only to find out that effective Oct 1, 2008, the amounts one has to redeem are going up...not just by a little, but by a lot...we now need 10k more miles to go from the US to USVI....that is for one ticket...EACH...I am an unhappy camper...sure I'm not the only one though...

Book before then and you will be able to use the current number even if the flight is after October 1.

Hurry and book something now with your miles! We did and got the last flights that have only one stop in October! We thought we were sitting pretty with getting to STT at 4pm, but no! They have already changed our flights and now we sit in the San Juan airport for 5 hours waiting on the 9pm puddle jumper. I checked to see if there is an earlier flight but nothing! Waaaa!

I think this could have an impact on folks heading to the VI's. Many folks I talk with use them to fly. I think we're going to see a lot of regrouping with the airlines and the good old days will really look good. I'm already thinking that the great days after deregulation are going to go the way of the horse buggy. Prices will rise through add charges for services.
We're heading to Ireland on Tuesday for a couple of weeks on miles. I talked to my buddy there today and he said travel all over Europe is down. Not only Americans not traveling due to high cost of Euro, but Europeans have slown down.

Someone posted on another forum about ditching their AA card and going to any airline Capitol Card. Doesn't look much better there based on what I found on their website.
"The number of miles required for travel redemption (i.e. Airfare, Hotel, Cruises, travel packages) will depend on the cost of the itinerary chosen at the time of redemption. The mileage requirement is as follows:
Cost of travel Number of No Hassle Miles needed
Up to $150 15,000 miles
$150.01 to $350 35,000 miles
$350.01 to $600 60,000 miles
$600.01 and greater the cost of travel x 100 "

I was looking for flights using CapOne miles and they are now charging $price X 125. So a $300 ticket cost $37,500 miles!!

Buy the ticket with cash and use your miles to upgrade!

Like the sound of the upgrade Gromit...however we don't travel without little ones...so there's not quite enough of those to go around...
Promo and Texas...it's the pits when "they" change the rules in the middle of the game...
