Well this morning while reading several posts regarding airfair, it became obvious to me this is just one more math problem to overcome.
So it is going to cost x number of dollars to fly from city A to STT. Well x used to be $500 dollars, I like to keep the math simple, and you stayed for seven days. So x/7=$71.00 per day for air travel. So now air fare is $900 from city A to STT if you stay for 14 days this works out to $64 dollars a day for airfair. So it is actually cheaper per day to stay for two weeks instead of one. Plus if the economy continues in the same direction it is currently heading then villas will remain priced essentially the same, regardless of the forty percent increase in rates that WAPA just asked for.

We are already right there with you.

For the first time, we are going for 10 nights instead of 8. (Yes - I know - we are pretty wild.)

In truth, nothing to do with airfare. We just decided that we wanted to fit too much into a short 8 night trip. So, we decided to "push the envelope" a bit.

But, I like the way that you think!!

I would also love to stay 2 weeks, I just wish I could. When the kids are both in college, maybe we could do a "working vacation". Dad has to be close to his clients or they will take their business elsewhere. How dare them!

I realized several years ago that 7 days didn't cut it for me - I hated the anxious feeling that I'd start to get around day 4-5 so, now, minimum stay is 10 days; normal stay is 14 and my goal is 28 We have to have goals in life, right?

Jay, what was your airfare cost per day on the current trip?!!

I'm figuring that since I like villas without a/c we are going to be seeing some cost advantage soon for those. Dolphin Run? Still $2,940 per week for an oceanfront 4-bedroom with sunrise and sunset views and a pool.

I think that's what the mouse calls "Disney Math" they've been using that argument in their advertising for years.

It's also the same logic I apply to high end/expensive designer items. Girls, you will all know what I'm talking about here...

Girl A goes to Store A and sees a pair of Stuart Weitzman shoes (Shoes A) for $275. They are perfect and she LOVES them. But not so sure about the hefty pricetag.

Girl A visits Store B and sees a simillar but not nearly as cute pair of Shoes B but they are MUCH cheaper at $75.

So Girl A figures that's a good deal, right?

WRONG.

She buys Shoes B from Store B, wears them 3 times and decides that they hurt her feet and they start to split at the seam. So essentially she paid $25 per wear for the shoes before throwing them into the back of her closet.

She goes back to Store A, breaks down and buys Shoes A and wears them once a week for over a year and LOVES them. This breaks down to a cost of around $4. per wear and they are still going strong.

BUT she spent at least $75 MORE than she would have spent (on sucky Shoes B) than if she had just broken down and bought Shoes A in the first place.

So-- the morals found in this tale of shoe woe are:

1) Know what you like;
2) You get what you pay for
3) Get to STJ as often as possible in order avoid incidents of psychotic ranting about crazy shoe purchase analogies and basic value economics..

Man, I neeed a vacation!!
