Party a-peel drink of the moment: "Ciroc Obama" -

This recipe was in Sunday's Chicago Tribune Magazine. We tried it last night and really enjoyed it after working in the yard all day:

Ciroc Obama

- Rim a highball glass with sugar and fill with ice
- Add 2 oz Ciroc Vodka
- Add 1 oz Chamboard black raspberry liqueur
- Top with lemonade (freshly squeezed if you can, the pulpier, the better)
- Stir, top with a lemon wheel

Very refreshing! Interesting that this originated at Chicago's Plan B Bar - wonder if the candidate is working on one of those yet...

Hey MargyZ- Where in the world is your TR from STX?

...I'd like to hear about that place...I always seem to hear about "hard crime" there...like the recent execution in the hospital  YIKES! ...and I know there is alot more to the place than I've heard in the crime blogs...

Did you post a TR anywhere? Didn't you go a little while back...

Sherban - yes, 4/16 - 4/25. Another great trip to STX and we are already planning for two trips next spring, dovetailing 10 days with DH with my "all-girl" trip for 7 days. No TR, posted up a couple of pix here first couple of days, but that was about it for here - just did a restaurant report on another forum.

Can't say a bad thing about STX - open spaces, villas spread out, villas with swimmable beaches, beautiful views, great dining, easy driving, very laid-back vibe. Crime there has not touched us and we have never felt uneasy. I'm sure there is daily crime, as there is everywhere, but the rep STX has seems to linger from things that happened in the pretty distant past and from the aftermath of Hugo. Not sure about the murder you refer to but the most recent things I have heard are along the lines of "I left my new Nikon on the front seat of the rental car and our wallets and passports in the glove compartment while we were snorkeling and things were stolen - can you believe it"?

Things are picking up there - I see more and more posts about it as a destination on other forums and the cruise ships are slowly returning to Fredericksted. If you talk to residents, though, they say they would like a bit more tourism but not too much and would prefer not to deal with cruise ship visitors. They talk of their sister islands and lament the changes and rapid growth.

Anyway, STX is going to be our destination for a couple of more trips, at least. Although, American Airlines is not making the USVI any easier these days.

Margy- Glad you had a nice time in STX, would love to hear more...or see pictures...

C'mon I know you are good with words...when is that trip report coming out...and WHERE are your Pictures?

Maybe instead of slurping all those coctails down in greater Chi-town...you could spend a little time on the keyboard....well, maybe I see the issue now...I'd rather drink too...

Hehe

Sherban - Well, it could have been too many cocktails (we were staying at the villa with the complimentary Cruzan rum bar, after all - 8 bottles in a wall dispenser, 4 on the bar) but I'll blame it on a slow router  - I thought I was starting a new thread but ended up hi-jacking another STX thread that I had been reading. Had a new post thread name, even, and couldn't figure out why my post ended up in another post. Wanted to fix that but couldn't edit or delete - how do you do that? Anyway, here is my post, scroll down for my bit:

Here's a link to the only portion of the TR I have finished - the restaurant report, with pictures (I know, I know, if it's not booze, it's food with me...):

http://www.vinow.com/wwwtalk/read.php?4 ... #msg-90988

I'll get an overdue TR together eventually but I've promised to create a DVD about the villa for the owners of EastWinds who are self-managing and need to market the place so that's first but it will force me to organize my pix and then I'll post them up. I've also promised villa reviews on the three villas we toured through Vacation St. Croix: Sugar Bay House, D'Estasi, and Amonoka, a villa that was right above us and is so gorgeous having just been re-done. So many promises, so little time...but it should be a slow summer work-wise and I'll catch up eventually.

BTW, I do NOT slurp...I'm a very dainty drinker. So dainty that I have even tried putting a straw in my beer while eating ribs at Sweet Baby Ray's - don't recommend doing that, though, got a lot of stares, even though my mug stayed pristine.
