Where to find cheap local produce and booze?

I posted this on the tripadvisor board, too, and thought I would try this board, as well:

Hello everyone!

My new hubby and I have just spent our first night on St. John - we are here for two weeks in Livin' villa in Coral Bay, and this place is absolutely amazing!

We went to Lily's Market yesterday and got eggs and some rum and wine. They really didn't have much in the way of fresh fruits and veggies, though - where can we buy these? Are there any local (cheaper) produce stands anywhere?

How about alcohol - Lily's had some really cheap rum (like $3.99 a bottle), and the flavored Cruzan was about $10. Are these good prices? Which brands of local rum would you recommend and where is the best place to buy them?

Thank you!

No, there aren't any produce stands. I would recommend that you take your cooler and go to the Dolphin Market in Cruz Bay. I've found they have the best produce. Starfish does too but Dolphin's is fresher. Lily's is such a small market they don't have a lot of room for produce.
I think you'll find the liqour will all be about the same price on STJ. So don't waste gas driving around trying to find it cheaper. Lily's had a good selection.
Lucky You! We were at Pink Horses right below you! The breezes were awesome!
Happy Honeymooning!!

I've never been to Josephine's but everyone raves about her fresh produce, and her place is right in Coral Bay. :D

On liquor, the consensus of opinion seems to be that Pine Peace market in Cruz Bay has the best prices.

CG- I've seen alot of people say that and then I was a bit curious when I saw a Starfish Gourmet ad in the St John Tradewinds that said their price was $4.99 for 750ml of light or dark cruzan rum...and it was "the lowest everyday price on St John"...maybe I'll have to verify this later this month...

Coral Bay Garden Center is fabulous. If you are here right now though, she does not have any greens available (tomatoes etc yes but no greens for probably another week) :(

She has been sick for a few weeks and has not planted any - all of her produce is organic and they sell for $7.00 per bag at Starfish and $3.00 per bag directly from her - she also supplies the restaurants (La Tapa, Caneel etc).

She is closed on Mondays.

Hope that helps

You turn in Coral Bay as if you are going to Love City and instead of stopping you continue on that road, go past the sign nailed to a treee that reads "Tourist Info - you are lost" (I love that sign :)) and she is just alittle further on that road on your left. There is a sign that reads Coral Bay Garden Center - you can't miss it :)

Sherban--
Josephine's is out of your picture, on that very long straight road (longest straight stretch on St. John) that runs from the left side of the harbor, above Island Blues in the GOOGLE Earth image.
