Pre-Printed Boarding Passes Accepted at STT

What does printing your boarding pass in Cruz Bay do for you at STT? Meaning, even if you print your bp, do you still have to wait in line at check-in or do you just have to go through security/customs? If you are checking a bag, do they have separate lines for that if you already have your boarding pass or do you have to stand in the regular check-in line? I guess I'm wondering if it's only beneficial to print ur boarding pass ahead of time if you're not checking a bag or is it beneficial either way? Also, I read somewhere that STT doen't take pre-printed boarding passes, only those printed by airport agents, but this can't be true cause many of you print your boarding passess on STJ, right?

turtle, we were unable to print our boarding passes for Spirit prior to our flight. Don't know why - we couldn't do it before we left ATL or while on St. John. I never can, because my passport has my married name change on it, and I set off all sorts of flags. My husband couldn't print his though, and that was weird.

If you have to check luggage it does nothing for you as you have to stand in line to get your bags tagged and then you will take them yourself through Customs and Immigration before leaving them at the X-Ray machine and proceeding onto security.

It's a great help if carry on only as you proceed straight to Customs and Immigration.

The other option for not standing in line is to use a Porter but he will print out your boarding passes for you anyway - so really no point.

If you are flying AA they have a self check in machine (when it is working about a 50/50 chance maybe) so you can use that for luggage tags and boarding passes, but I have seen as few as 2 people in line for that as well as a line the length of the "regular" check in line.

Hope this is clear :)

Thank you, Pia. You are a wealth of knowledge and a kind person to share so much. Do you recommend a porter even if we're only carrying on?

I can't believe I'm letting my tricks be known...
BUT ....

Don't know if you like to upgrade or not and I don't absolutely know for sure how this works, but if flying AA we almost always avail ourselves of the option to upgrade by paying a little bit more at the kiosk.

It seems like we get this option a lot -- either when checking in on-line or at the kiosks at the airport.

But we always check in on-line crazy early and we usually get to the airport pretty early as well in order to get this option. Obviously it's first come first served, but I'm not sure if you get an advantage by checking in on line at the 24hour point or as early as possible.

So for example last year we paid $267 RT per ticket for our coach tix. When we checked in on line (or at the airport I can't remember) we got the option to upgrade to First class for like another $200 per ticket (apparently pricing varies on route and availability). Same thing happened on the return flight. So basically for around $650 per ticket we got to fly first class RT. To buy a first class ticket outright is a hell of a lot more!!

Oh and now we ALWAYS use a porter, they make life SO much easier. You just sail past everyone!

Ja, we do carry-on only on the way home, print our boarding pass early and show up 2 hours before our flight leaves. Skippin the 75 minute check in process is splendid!!

Gromit, We always try the KIOSK for the upgrade also I think you have to be a part of the rewards program not real sure beacause we always enter our rewards number anyway to get the credit.Last trip it was $130.00 for the upgrade to Tampa. Can't beleive you gave up our secret.

hey turtlegirl,

Island Girl & I only take carry-on luggage (to avoid long check-ins )and we print our passes the night before we leave . Sometimes it can be a little tricky finding a computer with a printer .The advantage...we go straight to Customs & then the screeners ,And yes...they take pre-printed passes . If your staying in Cruz Bay..just go over to Gallows Point and ask permission to use their computer. Its right across from the service counter...type in airline...check-in...type your confirmation no. ...print your passes & e-tickets.
Good Luck & Have fun.....
