Berlingirls Trip Report...April 2008 Its only day one...nite

UGH...I don't post enough to get used to what I'm supposed to do after I preview. I previewed and then I lost our whole first night...after working all day today at the office, then all night at the snack shack at the baseball field, I'm a bit bummed as it's late and I'll try to rewrite quickly...
ROTFLMAO...as if that were possible...
anyway...first night was meeting our best friends who live on island at a favorite spot...called Latitude 18, mixture of old salts, yachties with moorings nearby, locals, and tourists going out on a limb.

it's located on the east end of the island near Red hook at end of a road that is rutted worse than anything you'd find on St John. I think probably lots of people (adventurous) do start out trying to find the place only to give up and end up at Molly Malones in Red Hook wondering if they'd missed something. It's really kinda hard to find...a no sign kind of place...
We arrived at 7:30 to a packed parking lot and a full house... thankfully our friends had got a table (the last I understand)...it was Friday night and supposed to be big entertaiment that night...what we couldn't imagine as it's a jam session kind of a place most of the time along with really good cheap food. You can get good food most every place...but you can't get cheap food. Big difference. Anyway, "the Human Jukebox who could play classic rock n roll" was the big feature and we were happy with that and seeing our good friends and the food of course. The waitress was slammed, but service was fantastic. People ate, some danced, lots drank and the kids played on the pier or climbed trees and ran around the grounds...had Chicken Marsala with DD and DH had the pork. About 9P or so, the "human jukebox" asked if we'd enjoy a special guest that asked to "jam" with him. Branford Marsalis was on island and had "stopped by" and then the place went wild. Not something we're really accustomed to being from a small New England town. DH doesn't get excited much, but this did it. He is a huge music fan and I thought he'd died and gone to heaven seeing a world class jazz saxophonist. It was a complete street party atmosphere and we joined the dancing group for a set (long Set) and regretfully decided we were exhausted and needed to go back to Secret Harbor as we hadn't slept much gettng ready to travel, does anybody???... it was a great first night... we all awoke to heat stroke as the A/C croaked at about 2p completely. Yikes, A shock to this family who had only seen snow on the ground since Dec 1st until that friday night in St Thomas. Thank God for the exhaustion and we fitfully slept and awoke around 8A ready to head to the Blue Moon for DD's fave...choc chip pancakes with to die for whipped cream...actually the view is to die for also. Coffee is good and strong there...oh I could go on...
BUT...Sorry all... I am falling asleep here...reports will continue...however apologize in advance for slow progress due to life here on the mainland that wiping me out on this Wed night...
I'm hitting submit and not previewing so I don't lose this latest effort...
